Why Choose Golden West College

. academic opportunities while demonstrating athletic ability. All of these will allow student-athletes to transfer to a four-year institution or successfully complete a community college degree. The Student-Athlete program was originally created to ensure that our incoming student-athletes receive math instruction that will set them up for success in all levels of required math courses.

Our tutors are selected from four-year institutions that not only excel in math courses, but also have extensive experience tutoring all levels of math, from basic algebra to calculus 3 and statistics. However, it is important to understand that tutoring is only successful if the student actually seeks help and understands its importance.

That’s why we have an excellent staff of former intercollegiate athletes who are always ready to lend a helping hand, understanding what it takes to be a successful student-athlete in your sport and especially in the classroom.

In 2018, we honored 133 outstanding student-athletes (34% of the student-athlete population) as 2018 GWC Student-Athlete Academic All-Stars. Of these Student-Athletes, 63 earned a 3.5 or higher, and eight earned a perfect 4.0. Dignitaries from Golden West College, as well as Coastal Community College District Council, faculty, Directors of GWC Academic Support Programs, faculty members, family and friends attended the celebration.

This celebration shows that GWC student-athletes can do anything; on the field, in the pool, in the gym and especially in the classroom. It is important that student athletes are able to balance successfully completing their academic requirements while continuing to compete in their sport.

Issues such as time management, academic course requirements, sports responsibilities as a team member, family responsibilities, and possibly a part-time job complicate their lives. Therefore, the following academic support services are provided to our GWC athletes.

All dates can be checked online at the Secretary of State or Orange County Registrar of Voters. All election and voter information can be checked online at the California Secretary of State and Orange County Registrar of Voters websites.
