Diwali—the Hindu “festival of lights”—is a popular religious holiday in Southeast Asia. Diwali lasts for five days and celebrates the victory of good over evil. The Times of India reports that Diwali is “an affirmation of hope, a new covenant of friendship and goodwill, and a simple religious festival.”
