The students who attended the event, many of whom were SNAP members, had not yet experienced a typical college networking event and struggled with the stress of the COVID classroom and clinical settings. However, Raines stressed that the event was a great opportunity for students to understand how they can connect with alumni and how those relationships can benefit them not only professionally but also personally.

Common early careers for computer science graduates include application programmer, systems programmer, systems analyst, system administrator, and network administrator. You can also prepare for emerging careers in data science, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence. Penn State Behrend has an extensive support system to help you identify and achieve your goals in college and beyond.
Learning Resource Center
Meet regularly with your academic advisor and take advantage of the services offered by the Academic and Career Planning Center starting in your first semester. A student on academic warning who fails to maintain a semester grade point average of 2.00 or higher will be placed on academic suspension.
A student on Academic Suspension may not schedule courses at the University for two consecutive semesters. (Note: Summer session equals one semester.) Students who wish to re-enroll at Penn State Behrend after an academic suspension must prepare a written statement requesting readmission and submit the readmission form to undergraduate students.
The program consists of a number of core courses in computer programming, algorithms and computer systems. In addition, the program offers a selection of advanced subjects where students can choose elective courses in Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and Web Services and Applications.
Students will be required to analyze and solve a significant industry-sponsored computing problem during the senior year. “This event allowed students to meet alumni from the same nursing program, share their experiences during their time on campus, and where they are now in their careers.
Career Paths
Alumni pointed out that with all the opportunities in the nursing field, there is a happy place in health care. Healthcare is truly a calling, and it makes a special person to care for. “I feel like this is an event that has an opportunity to expand every year, maybe eventually involve high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care.”
In rebuilding this sense of unity, the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing Alumni Society Board, along with their alumni association on the Behrend campus and SNAP (Student Nurses Association of PA), invited Penn State nursing alumni and students to join.

But as normalcy returned, the desire to personally gather to revive a much-needed nursing spirit persisted. A student who fails to earn a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 will be placed on academic warning. A student who has been placed on Academic Warning will have a registration hold and will need to meet with an academic advisor to have this registration hold lifted.

Academic Suspension
To be on academic warning, the cumulative grade point average must be 2.00 or higher. The general education program requires integrated academic courses. N is the suffix at the end of a course number used to name an interdisciplinary course and Z is the suffix at the end of a course number used to name an online course.
The Penn State Behrend Honors Program offers highly qualified first- and second-year students a rich academic experience. Benefits for participation include participation in conference-style honors classes, greater flexibility to pursue your personal academic interests, priority scheduling, additional scholarship opportunities, and the ability to live in special housing with honors.
Students who complete nine or more honors courses while maintaining a minimum cumulative grade point average are awarded an honors certificate. The Learning Resource Center helps students find, schedule, and pay for study experiences outside the United States.
Can’t dedicate a whole year abroad? There are many courses ranging from ten days to one semester. Northwestern Pennsylvania’s Black School of Business is the only institution accredited by AACSB International, the leading accrediting body for management education.
Academic Warning
A technology-rich environment and unique learning opportunities are made possible by a $20 million donation from the late insurance executive Samuel P. Black Jr. and his wife Irene. With such a successful turnout and overwhelmingly positive feedback from all who attended, Raines has her eye on future opportunities for her nursing students, already booking McGarvey Commons Auditorium for next year.
She hopes to establish a nursing-specific career fair and engage alumni with similar interests to help students revise and prepare for boards. The university admits students to the degree in the first semester at a campus where they can make at least two normal semesters of progress in their chosen program.
Generally, students are expected to complete two full years of study at their founding campus. Honors At Penn State Erie The Behrend College
We are one of the best public colleges and universities in Pennsylvania for student-faculty ratio, SAT scores, first-year student retention rate and graduation rate based on US News & World Report data. Penn State Behrend has a faculty-student ratio of 1:16 and an average class size of 26.
Raines and her fellow faculty have access to many nursing alumni, with two 400-bed hospitals within half an hour of the Behrend campus. She, along with many others, including faculty and staff, used their strong connections with alumni to help prepare and gather attention.

Study Abroad
Please consult regularly with a Penn State academic advisor to develop and refine an academic plan that is right for you. A concurrent major program is one in which students take courses to meet the requirements of at least two majors simultaneously, with graduation for all majors in the program occurring in the same semester.
At the bachelor’s or associate degree level, students may be approved for enrollment in more than one major under the concurrent major program. Both mentors and mentees share responsibility for making the mentoring relationship successful. By encouraging their mentees to engage in their education, achieve their educational goals, and develop the habit of learning, mentors assume a significant educational role.
The Instructor Registration Unit will provide each instructor with a primary academic advisor, information needed to plan the chosen program of study, and referrals to other specialized resources. Computer science is the study of computational methods including their principles and foundations, their efficient implementation, analysis and practical use in a wide range of fields.
Includes fundamentals of software development, computer problem solving, system software principles, and basic computer principles and limitations. It is much more than programming. It includes the mathematical foundations that support the analysis, evaluation, and proof of the correctness of computational solutions.
Black School Of Business
It includes specializations in artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber security, data mining, high performance computing, computer networks, computer graphics, computer vision, quantum computing and others. It is constantly evolving with the development of new and faster computational methods and the identification of new problems that require computational solutions.
“The juniors and seniors really recognized the value of talking to alumni considering they are about to enter the professional field. We also had some freshmen come and they were very excited to have so many alumni to interact with,” Raines said.
Students entering the workforce with a degree in computer science will find many opportunities in business, industry, government, and academia, and especially in institutions with a scientific focus. These include traditional and emerging careers such as application programming, systems programming, systems analysis, systems administration, bioinformatics, network administration, and systems modeling – a computer.
Recent employer Behrend B.S. Computer science graduates include Amazon, Erie Insurance, Genesys, IBM, Larson Texts, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. ABET is a nonprofit, nongovernmental accrediting agency for programs in the applied and natural sciences, computing, engineering, and engineering technology and is recognized as an accreditor by the Higher Education Accreditation Council.

The first-ever Behrend Nursing Alumni event had an unexpectedly strong turnout, with 13 alumni, eight faculty and approximately 50 nursing students in attendance. Each table features two alumni and information about them that students can scan and use to contact them after the event.

Using a speed-dating format, students moved from one table to another every few minutes, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to connect with all participants. To be eligible for admission to the Computer Science Major (CMPBC), a student must have completed MATH 140, MATH 141, CMPSC 121, CMPSC 122, and one of the following: BIOL 110, or CHEM 110 and CHEM
111 or PHYS each of these courses.
