Rrisd Calendar 2021-22 – By law, Texas public schools must begin classes on the fourth Monday in August. Because Round Rock ISD has been adopted as an innovation district, the district cannot begin instruction for students during the school year before the second Monday in August.

As in recent years, two days of emergency minutes are kept in each calendar to allow for school closures due to inclement weather. Professional development days and holidays are also included in each calendar and have been adjusted based on community feedback to reflect the various religious holidays that represent our diverse community, such as: A calendar committee made up of district and campus administrators and teachers

the opportunity to review. and provide feedback on two versions of the academic calendar. The choices were developed by a calendar committee comprised of district and campus staff and parents representing the five vertical learning communities, based on previous calendars and community feedback from years past.

This year’s community feedback, which was reviewed by the calendar committee, showed strong support for the second draft that was presented. This option was moved as a single recommendation for approval. The community had the opportunity to review and comment on potential calendars earlier this year.

The Academic Calendar Committee, composed of parents, teachers and administrators, examined the comments and made its final recommendation to the Board of Directors. Like past calendars, including the 2020-2021 calendar approved last year, the 2021-2022 academic calendar includes 75,600 operating minutes.

The state professional development exemption is 2,100 operating minutes due to the use of five professional development days during the school year. Each calendar includes a two-week winter break to give families additional travel days during the holiday season, and students return for the spring semester during the first week of January.

Daily tutoring will also be offered to all high school students from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. and will begin each term on the first day of the second full week of classes and continue until the day before final exams.
