Tamug Calendar – The Tamil calendar is used in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and the Tamils of Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka. Tamil refers to any cultural or religious event. Traditionally, the Tamil year begins on April 14 every year.
The days of the week are named after the planets in the solar system. The year is divided into six seasons, each of two months. The Tamil calendar follows a 60-year cycle very similar to other calendars in the Indian subcontinent.

The day begins with sunrise and ends with sunset. The fifth month of Aavani and the tenth month of Thai are considered very auspicious for marriage and other events. The fourth month of Adi is considered inauspicious.
