For example, I had to use 42-60lb bands for bicep curls (I use ripcords) if I wanted to gain anything from speed. Still, when I had to strike, I fell in a very light band. That’s all I have to say in conclusion.
I don’t know Mike, but dude acts like he’s gone out of his mind going through these workouts. He may actually be really lean and in shape, but personally, as someone who appreciates a good motivator and trainer like Tony or Shaun T, Mike pales miserably in comparison.

But my favorite would be the Tapout XT. I was never bored and I loved the MMA moves. There’s a fair amount of pushups here, but you’re really not getting enough time to do max-reps. Probably as well as considering how trashed you’ll be when it’s over, since most of them involve explosive movement rather than slow and steady.

Must respectfully disagree. The Tapout XT and the P90X2 aren’t exactly the same. P90X2 does not have any martial arts components and is divided into 3 distinct phases: Core, Strength, and PAP. After completing both programs, I generally failed to notice much, other than perhaps picking up obvious ideas from the schedule and P90X.
There are a lot of fast movements with the resistance bands here so go slow at first if you want to avoid pulling anything. That is, unless you’re a young punk, in which case get off my lawn and go for it!
Watching 11.041 Warmup and Stretch is actually a joke. You do the movements for the stretch so quickly that someone with some degree of history with physical education will fake the move on the spot. He really goes through the whole aspect of stretching.
You’ll be using that loop band for this, otherwise a good portion of it won’t really feel like much. Resistance is followed by rapid explosive movements, almost a form of post activation potentiation. While there are many legs, where is the back?
True, there are some row moves here and there but in between a leg set you often do push ups instead. I would say the back gets a good stretch, but not much. xt: There is no rhythmic instruction.
It’s planking, and up and down dog most of the time. And faster too. There are no instructions on the proper timing of inhalation or exhalation, which is an important aspect of yoga. I would highly recommend that you compare the workout titles of the XT to the p90x and see the obvious similarities in the title names.
Especially with plyo, yoga and various martial arts programs. I’m not saying the martial arts aspect is a copy, but let’s face it, the p90x was first, and it’s a copy that pales in comparison. Just goes to show that a little more resistance and a little less downtime can make a big difference. Tapout XT is a series of DVDs approximately 40-50 minutes long and follows a 90-day schedule that mixes every 30 days.
The workouts follow a martial arts/MMA theme and feature several high-profile guest stars among the crowd performing the routines. At least they say so. I don’t know who is who in MMA so they could either be world champions or total hacks for all I know!
As an added feature, each workout also features the dreaded final “Killer Move”, which is a serious goal to achieve. The p90x, although long, is a great yoga workout. It’s rhythmic, it’s instructional, and the vocabulary for the poses is correct.
It also includes some aspects of meditation, which is important about yoga. Breathing, focusing etc. After p90x yoga is over, you feel refreshed, well and lifted. Not only that, but the nutrition plan is disgusting. There is a 10 day slim down guide which basically gives you 2 meals/day.
This is a starvation diet, and no duh, you will loose weight on it, but will also start breaking down your own muscle tissue to maintain blood sugar levels and you will need to do your daily routine + workout
The energy needed to accomplish that has to be produced. This is ignorant, and not a recommended way to lose weight. Think Hollywood craze. One complaint: He named a move the “Jersey Shore.” I’m pretty sure it’s illegal.
Sure Mike, we understand you know the producers of the show. But like my embarrassing past of working as a pig steerageman (no kidding), I keep that unpleasant fact to myself. Then again, the move is a floor punch, so just imagine you’re pounding “The Situation”‘s face into a hamburger.
Plyometrics and martial arts are a natural fit, so it should come as little surprise how effective it is. The truth is that you really can’t compare it to other popular programs because Plyo XT follows its own rules.
First of all, even though you get some water brakes there are no brakes (and I mean no) between them. This means you go straight from one quad busting move to the next, with little chance for your competition to catch up.
Most moves are also a combo, like frog jumps and speed skaters combined with kicks. But these mainly serve to distract you from the pain of the situation.
