Utsw Academic Calendar – The amount of annual leave granted to state agencies is determined by the national and state holidays referred to in Section 1. Texas Government Code Section 662.003, includes holidays during the calendar week. Weekend holidays are not included in the annual total.

Higher education institutions have the flexibility to set their own timetables. The U.T. system has the same number of holidays as other state agencies, but the dates may differ. Employees who are assigned to work at least 20 hours per week for at least 4.5 consecutive months are eligible for leave.

Holiday Leave

You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open PDF files. If you don’t have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it for free from Adobe.com. See the instructions at the bottom of the page to add your calendar to Outlook.

Depending on the number of holidays in the fiscal year, floating holidays may be included in the holiday calendar. Full-time employees will receive 8 hours of floating time off per award if included in the vacation plan.

Part-time employees will receive a prorated amount based on the specified weekly hours worked. Floating leave must be used in the tax year to which it is allocated. Unused floating leave will be carried forward to the next tax year.

Upon separation from service (including national agency transfers), unused floating leave will be paid. The legislature has designated Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Good Friday and Cesar Chavez Day as optional holidays. Leave-eligible employees may take optional leave by working any leave that is required for the skeletal workforce or by using applicable accrued leave.

Floating Holiday

The Academic Calendar is the official calendar for all UT Southwestern Medical Center students. UT Southwestern reserves the right to change the dates and times of the academic calendar; however, every effort will be made not to make changes and any changes will be marked with the date of change.

Notifications of changes will be sent to students, faculty and staff.
