Uaa Academic Calendar – Audit registration is based on available space. Auditors may be dropped from classes to make room for students seeking credit. No credit is received for audited courses. The need to monitor the course is determined by the faculty.

Faculty can withdraw students if they do not meet the agreed conditions. For fall and spring registration, UAA follows a priority schedule for registration opening days based on student class. Class standing is determined by the number of credits earned.

Students can check their status in UAOnline on the “Check Your Enrollment Eligibility” screen. See the academic calendar each semester for open enrollment dates. Registration will open at 12:01 pm for each group of students according to the schedule below.

Auditing Classes

Faculty are not required to initiate a demotion or withdrawal for any reason. Students who must be excused from the first week of attendance must contact a faculty member and obtain permission for the first class meeting of the semester to avoid possible faculty-initiated dropouts or withdrawals.

In cases of extenuating circumstances, the student or a person with legal authority to act on the student’s behalf may submit a Late Addition or Withdrawal Request form. Not knowing university procedures or deadlines or changing records for appearance’s sake is not an excuse for late addition or active withdrawal.

The University is obliged to guarantee the integrity of the transcript as a historical document. Therefore, the transcript must reflect the true history of the student’s experience at the university. Requests are rarely granted and only when extenuating circumstances are documented.

Students who audit courses are required to meet the prerequisites, register and pay the same tuition as those who take courses for credit. During the first and second weeks of the semester, audits to credit require a faculty signature.

Priority Registration

After the second week of the semester, no credit-to-audit or audit-to-credit changes are allowed. The add/drop deadline for each summer course is one week after the start date of publication. Caution: Dropping, withdrawing or revising a course may affect eligibility for current and future financial aid.

Students receiving financial aid should check with the UAA Financial Aid Office before dropping, withdrawing or revising a course. See Financial Aid for more information. The University holds students academically and financially responsible for their enrollment.

Students who change their plans or are unable to attend must officially drop or withdraw from their course by the published deadline to avoid a final grade of F for absence. Courses must be dropped within the 100 percent refund period to avoid a tuition review.

Refer to the academic calendar for specific deadlines. Faculty members may initiate the drop or withdrawal from classes of students who do not meet published individual course requirements (see next section). Students who fail to attend class within the first seven calendar days of the semester start date are also eligible for this action.

Request For Late Add Or Retroactive Withdrawal

The deadline for a faculty-initiated drop or withdrawal is the same as for a student-initiated drop or withdrawal. The withdrawal deadline is the withdrawal deadline displayed for the semester. For classes that begin after the release deadline, students have the option to drop the class within five business days of the published class start date.

UAA reserves the right to cancel or combine classes; to change the time, date or place of the meeting; or to make other necessary revisions in class offerings. The University may drop classes at any time if enrollment falls below expected levels.

For the fall and spring semesters, the two-week add/drop period begins on the first day of the semester. Registration for full semester (15 week) courses is not allowed after the second week of the semester. Even if students have attended classes from the beginning of the course, their registration will not be accepted after the registration deadline.

Registration is the process of registering and paying for classes for a particular semester. Students can only attend classes at UAA after successfully completing the course registration process. Course offerings, dates, times and other important registration details specific to each semester are included in that semester’s class list via UAOnline.

Add Drop And Withdrawal Deadlines For Summer Courses

Not all courses listed in this catalog are offered each semester. Requirements that students must meet include all catalog requirements and/or co-requisites for the course, as well as enrollment restrictions and other attendance requirements set for the course.

Faculty may initiate withdrawals for students in audit status for classes according to agreed terms. Students can waitlist for courses that are currently full through UAOnline. When space becomes available, students will be notified by email of their choice on a first-come, first-served basis.

The timeline in which you must register after notification varies from 12- 48 hours, with the timeframe getting shorter as the start of the term approaches. Students must check their preferred email daily and at least every 12 hours beginning on the Friday before class begins.

Students will not be charged until registration is complete. After the deadline to drop a class, students may withdraw from the class until the 10th week of the semester. This will result in a W designation for the course on the acade
mic transcript.

Faculty-Initiated Drop Or Withdrawal

After such withdrawal, the academic grade for the course can only be earned by retaking the course. No tuition will be refunded to students who withdraw from classes. It is the student’s responsibility to familiarize themselves with UAA policies, procedures and deadlines.

Refer to the academic calendar for specific deadlines. Students are expected to register only for the part of the course they plan to attend and to complete all the courses they register for. The withdrawal deadline is the eighth Friday of the 10-week term, and the third Friday of the first and second five-week terms.

All other summer courses with start dates before June will be held until the first withdrawal deadline; all other summer courses with start dates on or after June 1 will be held by the second withdrawal deadline.

Students may register in person or use the UAOnline web registration system on dates published in the academic calendar. Non-credit, continuing education (CEU), and professional development (500-level) courses have a unique registration process; Interested students are advised to contact the relevant school or college for further information.

Cancellation Of Classes

Caution: Dropping, withdrawing or revising a course may affect eligibility for current and future financial aid. Students receiving financial aid should check with the UAA Financial Aid Office before dropping, withdrawing or revising a course. See Financial Aid for more information.

Students can drop classes every semester according to the deadline found in the academic calendar. Deadlines are determined by class start dates and usually occur within the first two weeks of classes (for fall and spring semesters), or prorated for courses with irregular start and end dates.

No grade will be issued for a grade dropped on the deadline. Students who cannot register in person can have a proxy register for them if they provide a proxy with a signed Proxy for Registration form.

This form is available online. Proxies must follow the policy and calendar for registration. Proxy registration will not be accepted without the written consent of the student. Advanced students and degree-seeking freshmen admitted to any UAA campus will register before non-students and students from other UA campuses.

Student-Initiated Drop Or Withdrawal

Summer registration is open first to all degree-seeking students and then to all others, including non-degree-seeking students. Students can adjust their schedule and add or drop courses during the add/drop period. Some courses may require instructor approval for these activities.

Caution: Dropping, withdrawing or revising a course may affect eligibility for current and future financial aid. Students receiving financial aid should check with the UAA Financial Aid Office before dropping, withdrawing or revising a course. See Financial Aid for more information.

All students must meet with a faculty or academic advisor before registering each semester. Advising can help students clarify their goals, make appropriate course choices and understand academic expectations. However, students are ultimately responsible for meeting the university’s requirements.
