Crcsd Calendar – Current Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) students in grades 9-12 for the 2020-2021 school year have the choice of becoming full-time or part-time students. Full-time students must take at least 5 CRVA courses per semester.

Depending on credit needs, seniors may be allowed to take up to 4 courses. Current CRCSD students who choose to study part-time will take tuition at their local high school and up to 3 CRVA courses.

Full-time and part-time CRVA students can still join clubs, play sports, and participate in a variety of activities hosted at their local high school. Students enrolled in CRVA must enroll in at least 5 courses per semester and will be considered full-time students of the Cedar Rapids Community School District.

CRVA students may find the day and week schedule that works best for them, but all courses must be completed within the CRCSD semester schedule.

We follow the Cedar Rapids Community School District calendar, which includes all holidays. In 2021-22, the fall semester begins August 23 and the spring semester begins January 12. Our ‘How to apply’ page includes the necessary forms and more details on the procedure.

Students complete online coursework in the semester program. Synchronized courses are taught by Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) teachers using a curriculum developed by CRCSD. The asynchronous courses offered through Edgenuity (no prior Edgenuity experience required) are for students in grades 6-12.

CRVA students will receive a district device when they enroll in the program. Current Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) students in grades 6-8 in the 2020-21 school year can enroll full-time (5 to 7 courses) in the CRVA and will not take additional classes at the school in their locality.

Alternatively, students with a full program at their current middle school may choose to take a class with CRVA. CRVA students can still join clubs, play sports, and participate in a variety of activities held at the local middle school.

They are not. Because CRVA’s current teaching model for students is asynchronous (meaning students can learn at their own pace rather than that of the teacher), CRVA courses currently do not meet the requirements for NCAA accreditation, which requires regularly scheduled classes with students.

This is only an issue if your child plans to play college-level sports at the D1 or D2 level. For the vast majority of students, NCAA accreditation does not impact high school course choice, but CRVA is working to adapt our 21-22 school year instructional model to meet NCAA expectations for students who want qualify for varsity athletics.
