letter grade.. A student’s request for a P/NC grade (and/or previous terms of credit/no credit) will be granted prior to receiving a letter grade. Remember, once a student selects a P/NC grade for a course, that selection is final and irreversible.
Attendance Policies
If a student’s selection of the P/NC grading option violates college-wide, departmental, or program-specific restrictions, the form is invalid. All students must report to class during the first week of classes. Students who do not attend the first class meeting will lose their place in some classes and be assigned a WN “never attend” grade.
Although this grade is not shown on the official transcript, the student must pay based on the date the teacher reports the absence to the Registrar’s Office. 5. If (at the student’s request) a P/NC grade (and/or prior credit designation/no credit) is awarded, it is not an approved grade in accordance with college, departmental, or major regulations, and it is converted to a grade recorded by the Instructor’s Registrar’s Office.

Academic Calendar And Sessions
Our goal is to provide you, the student, with the most accurate and up-to-date information. The catalog should be used as a guide in planning your course of study to meet your degree requirements and graduate on time.
Other colleges, graduate and professional schools, services, and employers may not favor pass/credit evaluation. They can change “Pass” to “D” and “No Credit” to “F” for their own purposes. Such decisions are taken by other institutions.
Before choosing a P/NC grade, students should consult with advisors in the Counseling Office, their academic programs, and the Office of Financial Aid. They should also check the policies of external financial aid agencies Participation in the summer program is optional.
Students receiving financial aid under the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) should understand that these awards may not exceed a total of eight semesters (ten for SEEK). TAP assistance for the summer session is considered one and a half semesters;

Pass/No Credit Policy For Undergraduate Courses
The remaining half can only be used in the next summer session. 1. Departments or programs may limit a student’s choice of transfer/credit. Some programs prohibit the use of pass/fail credit grades in core courses. This is especially true for study programs leading to external certification or postgraduate studies.
Students should check with their departmental advisors for specific policies. Departments or majors that limit students’ choice of P/NC options must have this policy approved by the Senate. Note: For the Spring and Fall 2020 semesters, some of the above policies have been temporarily suspended by CUNY due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
For courses in the Spring and/or Fall 2020 semesters, selection of the CR/NC grading option (1) does not count against college-wide or program-specific limits on the number of P/NC (formerly CR/NC) approved per semester. , (2) the maximum number of P/NC (formerly CR/NC) grade option uses allowed, (3) students’ selection of the P/NC (formerly CR/NC) grade option on academic testing, and (4) certain other restrictions.
See a complete list of current temporary policies here To select a P/NC for a course, a student must complete a form available in the Registrar’s Office. The student must submit the application to the Registrar by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) one calendar day prior to the last day of classes listed on the Hunter College academic calendar (as well as one day prior to the deadline to officially withdraw from a class with a grade of W).
Notification of a student’s P/NC preference is sent to the course instructor by the Registrar’s Office. Students cannot choose the P/NC assessment option after this deadline and no application for late selection will be accepted. 3. A maximum of four courses (including repeat courses) taken at Hunter College may be assigned a Pass/No Credit grade (and/or a No Credit/No Credit grade) on the Hunter College transcript, excluding courses with a mandatory CR/ NC grade.

Although Hunter is not an institution that accepts attendance, the in
structor reserves the right to designate attendance as one of the course requirements and to use attendance in calculating the final grade. Such attendance policies are outlined in the course syllabus.
4. P grades are used instead of A, B, C and D academic grades. A grade of NC is used instead of an academic grade of F. It is not used as a substitute for WU grades.
In some courses, it may be possible to elect to receive credit for the course without receiving a letter grade. If students choose to receive a grade based on this system, they will receive a “Pass (P)” instead of an A, B, C, or D, and “No Credit (NC)” instead of an F.
This system must meet all attendance, assignment, and testing requirements established by the instructor. Course requirements and standards are the same as the letter grading system, but P/NC grades are not counted when calculating a student’s GPA by Hunter College.
Students can choose whether they want to take a letter grade or a P/NC course, but some restrictions apply. For information on whether a particular program or major restricts use of the P/NC option, read the program description or Major Areas of Interest in the Hunter College undergraduate catalog or contact department or program advisors.
