Speaking to LakeWalesNew.net this week, McKeon explained the need and how the Lake Wales Charter Schools Foundation is working to raise funds to complete the $6 million+ project. About half of these projects are funded by grants to support education and historic preservation.

The plan will also include upgrading the 1919 building to current building codes. The building, which was part of Lake Wales High School until the early 1970s, will house several classrooms. Bok Academy North’s new school building is nearing completion.

A 2023 Cadillac is the prize you want for your May graduation fundraiser. McKeon said the project will complete the reconstruction of 20 classrooms in the next two weeks. This will help schools move out of the many mobile homes currently in use.

“This will give us a comprehensive system of four elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school, which will provide local students with an unlimited system to experience the best of higher education here in Lake Wales.”

Lake Wales’ new middle school will benefit from a $6 million construction project, but Lake Wales Charter Schools is struggling to find funding for a new school building at BoK Academy North. The construction of the school has received historic preservation funding because the three buildings are part of the town’s first schools.

Originally the largest building on campus, the three-story brick building was destroyed by an arsonist in the 1970s. The current project includes a two-story building built in 1919 with a cafeteria and an old administration building.

“We’ve got $3 million from public and historical organizations and we have a major donor who has pledged the last $500,000,” McKeon said. “The 3 million dollars lost is something we have to work on.” As part of this, Huston Motors, a local Cadillac dealer, was pleased to offer the 2023 Cadillac XT4 Premium.
