Augustana Academic Calendar – By enrolling in a course or course, each University of Alberta student agrees to be bound by the terms, conditions, academic standards, rules, regulations, policies and conditions of this notice. Codes of Conduct included or referenced in the Calendar.

Instrumental Ensembles

We plan to complete the instrumental ensembles in Augustana this fall. Based on safety recommendations from the CDC, State of Illinois, and other health authorities, as well as major scientific research related to the performing arts and COVID-19, we organize our facilities so that we can practice in the safest way possible.

We meet within the current limits of Illinois in groups of up to 50 in various rehearsal rooms, providing space for jazz bands, concert bands, orchestras and chamber groups. The University of Alberta is a publicly supported non-denominational co-educational institution.

Instruction can be creatively configured, but we effectively provide our students with the rich and complex musical experience that is the hallmark of an Augustana education. (Forward via ARCS and/or online forms) Our plan is to have the choir sing at Augustana this fall. We are currently waiting for a large scientific study to be completed by the end of July to find out the specifics of how our pieces work safely.

Plans To Pivot

However, our current plan is to have our senior singers rehearse in smaller chamber groups for a shorter period of time. These small groups are led by our conducting faculty and rehearse in larger spaces such as our rehearsal rooms, Centennial Hall, or outside, weather permitting.

Augustana College is a private school located in Rock Island, Illinois, across the Mississippi River from Iowa City. Known for its picturesque wooded campus, Augustana offers more than 50 undergraduate majors and pre-professional degrees. On campus, students can participate in a variety of student clubs, more than 10 Greek letter organizations, or recreational sports.

Augustana students can also try out for one of the more than 20 Viking varsity sports teams that compete in the Illinois and Wisconsin NCAA Division III Collegiate Conference. The faculty has decided to adjust the academic calendar to protect the health and safety of our campus community.

Changes to the calendar give students the option of not returning after Thanksgiving. In-person classes will continue to be the primary mode, but our faculty plan to host a variety of fully online and blended classes.

Try Now The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is upgrading systems to enhance the learning experience for both on-campus and remote students, including improved Moodle functionality, enhanced options for synchronous classroom interaction, and more technology in our classrooms.

This financial investment will provide the faculty with the tools to provide a high-quality learning environment for all of our students. Performances will likely be pre-recorded and posted instead of live. We plan to shoot live video and audio recordings of the groups, which can be combined into a show that will be widely distributed to our viewers.
