The common register is a vehicle used by schools to transmit data to the COD system. Schools use the Common Registry to submit Federal Student Aid (FSA) Title IV program data (starting in the 2002-2003 grant year).
Common records are structured in Extensible Markup Language (XML) and contain both simple and complex elements. One of the criteria used to establish student eligibility for Title IV program aid is that a student must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Students who do not have an advanced degree or equivalent can demonstrate “eligibility” from the education or training offered by earning college credit or through the approved Ability to Earn (ATB) test. After the Central Processing System (CPS) processes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), it issues a Student Aid Report (SAR) to the processor that is sent to the student
. The SAR reports the student’s application information and, if there are no questions or problems with the application, the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), the number used to determine eligibility for federal student aid and student financial aid history.
Schools have a variety of options when choosing software. They can purchase software from a commercial software vendor that provides a financial aid module for the product, use EDExpress (a free PC-based software product from the Department of Education), or create custom software.
In the common record, the software vendor field identifies the software vendor and the product. The provider cannot be submitted without the Version attribute. A record that is (1) a non-PLUS record for which a single correction has failed matches the applicant’s file in the Central Processing System (CPS) when the school changes one of the identifiers

student or (2) otherwise, PLUS records pending credit check will be accepted. An XML element with simple elements. Text is not required within complex elements; however, complex elements can also contain text. Elements contain other simple elements to provide a logical grouping of data.

If the school has chosen to withdraw the COD from the school name, this registration may also trigger a withdrawal request in G5. Period of deferral during which repayment of the loan principal is suspended as a result of the borrower’s compliance with one or more of the deferral conditions established by law.
Interest continues to accrue during the grace period of an unsubsidized home loan. Interest is not earned during the grace period of a cash loan. The “net” calculation includes corrections submitted by the school and processed by COD. The total percentage of eligibility used (EU) for a Lifetime Pell or Iraq and Afghanistan service grant. Beginning in June 2018, the COD system will use sequestration logic to calculate the Iraq and Afghanistan Maximum Service Grant (IASG) with a constraint limitation. These sequester-required reductions apply to the amount of the most recent federal Pell grant (Scheduled Award) related to funding for the Iraq and Afghanistan services during the specified grant year less the reduction.

This applies to the federal Pell grant and service grants in Iraq and Afghanistan. An unsubsidized loan is a direct loan made to a student that will begin paying interest from the disbursement date. The federal government pays students interest on these loans from the date of payment.
If the student is in school, in a grace period or in deferment, the student is not required to repay the loan, but may choose to do so. G5 is the system used by the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of the Department of National Education to manage school-specific obligations and pay money (expenses) for those obligations.

G5 is connected to the COD system via FMS. G5 is part of EDCAPS and is directly connected to the US Federal Reserve Treasury System. Awards for incarcerated students are available for the 2021-22 school year for incarcerated students (non-state or federal) and eligible for federal Pell Grants.

Records are kept, but warnings are sent to schools to alert them to potential violations. The information sent includes a code that indicates an alert, the type of alert, and the associated components. The Iraq and Afghanistan service grant indicator is added to the Pell Creation Awards screen for award years 2010-2011 and beyond.
This award allows Pell-eligible students, designated by the Department of Defense as dependents of a parent or guardian who died while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, to receive Iraq Service Grant funds and Afghanistan.
