And another tip: On our trip today, the express pass has become more useful than ever to maximize our time in the park.
As with admission, it’s best to buy your Express passes in advance (they go on sale, and what’s more, advanced online prices are usually the lowest). (Psst … Undercover Tourist can save you some green on your ticket as well as the Express Pass!) There are also plenty of great dining options at Universal CityWalk, which is located right outside the theme park’s front gate.

A must see at Universal CityWalk is the famous Voodoo Donut, which opened its first location in Portland, Oregon. I highly recommend visiting this store to check out the crazy decorations, even if you’re not into one of the tempting sweets.

There may still be some spring break crowd left as Easter will be later this year. I’ve never regretted having the Universal Express, but you can buy a regular ticket and upgrade at the park (subject to availability) if you want to see what it’s like before committing to a fee.
It is said in the busiest days of the year that Universal is expected to have some of the busiest days from September 22-25. Then we travel. Are there any special events or holidays at that time?
Since both options are weekdays in early November, it may not be a necessity (although you can always buy from the park if you change your mind). Anytime of the day is fine – the crowd is the same – so feel free to choose which one best suits your schedule.
Between Disney and Universal, we would choose Disneyland Park (not Disney California Adventure) because special events cause early closings. for the general public so you can’t maximize your time. Although, if you don’t mind the short hours, then Universal Studios Hollywood can be less crowded, especially in the morning, although it can be busier because it gets closer to the event.

I’ve never regretted having the Universal Express – after all, it’s not a busy week (but a weekend), so maybe not necessary. If you decide not to get an Express ticket and want to upgrade in the park, please note that your discount may or may not be used in the park.
(If not, then you have to pay more or wait in line.) We usually recommend the Single Rider line to skip the long line if you don’t have the Express line, but most of them are already closed, so it’s a little harder to skip the line.
without Express. All things considered, it’s usually up to you! Normally, we’d say the crowds aren’t that bad during the week, but with Super Nintendo World officially opening on February 17th, it’s likely to be even busier than usual.

Note that if it’s busy enough, you’ll have to join the virtual line (which can potentially fill up quickly) to enter Super Nintendo World. However, if you have a Universal Express, you will be able to access the land without a virtual lane reservation after 3pm.
Where To Eat At Universal Studios Hollywood![]()
The only race on land, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, will not have an Express lane when it opens and will only be accessible via the traditional waiting lane (or Single Rider line). So it’s worth getting a Universal Express pass if you’re interested in accessing new lands.
Halloween Horror Nights takes place Thursday through Sunday in September, so it affects park hours as the park closes early to the general public. Sometimes Yom Kippur can also affect the crowd (but more noticeable when it falls on a weekday).
The morning is usually not too crowded! If you’re on the fence, you can wait until you’re in the park to gauge the crowd level and then upgrade (subject to availability). If you decide to wait, we recommend arriving early as it is likely to sell out.
Hilton and Sheraton are both very nice and offer shuttle service to Universal. If you walk, Hilton is closer. I can’t talk about the food in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter without mentioning the amazing Butterbeer!
What To Do At Universal Studios Hollywood
This drink made famous by a series of books has an incredibly frothy caramel taste that you can try in frozen, regular or warm form. If you decide to buy this drink, head inside the Three Broomsticks to the hog’s Head bar, where there is a very short line for drinks from the midfield stand.
In my opinion, the best hotel near Universal Studios Hollywood is The Garland. This old Hollywood hotel is beautifully renovated with fantastic rooms, a beautiful pool and a fabulous restaurant. During our recent stay, we had dinner at the restaurant two nights in a row.

What will we miss in terms of weekend getaway experiences? Thanks for all your suggestions! Waiting time can vary by ride, but you can expect 20-40 minutes for most rides. It’s not a busy time, but follow our tour plan to get the lowest wait times per trip!

Be sure to clear the Lower Lot in the morning for the shortest wait time there. For fun! Thursday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm You can check our Crowd Calendar for expected crowd levels. In general, though, you might want to consider Express around this time, because it will be in the middle of spring break, and Super Nintendo World has just opened, so it might draw a bigger audience than usual around this time.
The biggest difference is the locals. Universal Orlando has locals, but not as many as the regional area of Los Angeles. More and more of these locals are annual pass holders who don’t mind popping in for a pint of Butterbeer after a long week.
Many pass holders visit on Saturdays so this might encourage you to visit during the week if you can. Officially called the Front of Line Pass, the Universal Express Pass gives guests the privilege of skipping the line and receiving priority seating in seated shows. Unlike Disneyland’s FastPass system and Disneyland’s new MaxPass paid FastPass system, the Universal Express Pass has an additional price and automatically allows you to pass in front of each ride once with the pass during your visit.
Great question! We think so. If racing is your priority ad when the park opens, you should be able to include it. If you qualify for Single Rider, this can help shave some time off the longer lines.
