If You Lose Your Job
From 2023, there is a new public holiday at the beginning of February, on the occasion of St. Brigid’s Day. Public holiday is the first Monday in February, unless St. Brigid’s Day (1st February) falls on a Friday, then Friday 1st February is a public holiday.
If you are on sick leave on public holidays, you are entitled to public holiday benefits, provided you have worked at least 40 hours for your employer in the previous five-week period – see ‘Part-time workers’ above.
