Desert Sands Calendar – Winter Break: Friday, December 16th is the last day of school before winter break, which will be a modified school day. The school will be closed from December 19 to December 30. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

As the coronavirus pandemic approaches a year and a half into the next school year, some dates may change. A mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid learning is still possible at DSUSD, but Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday emphasized his desire to see students in the classroom so that they can receive social and emotional benefits full time, directly.

As with last year, these policies are subject to change at any time or at the direction of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The California Department of Health said this month it will evaluate safety regulations related to COVID-19 in schools and determine whether mask requirements or guidelines need to be updated by Nov. 1.

Newsom urged residents, including teachers, to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine if they haven’t already. Californians’ decision to opt out of the vaccine could affect businesses and private schools, he said.
