I learned that every day maintenance crews check every bolt and every wheel on the vehicles they drive. Every season they tear down and rebuild the vehicles for driving so they are like new every year.
We even had to watch someone from the maintenance team change the wheel because he felt a small roughness in the bearing. They let us take turns at the wheel and it was very difficult. In case you haven’t heard, in 2021 Dollywood announced plans for a $500 million investment strategy over the next 10 years.

Part of the announcement included the addition of HeartSong Lodge & Resort and the long-term goal of finally making it a year-round attraction. The second part of this announcement included a record breaking family attraction coming to the theme park.

Read on to learn more about this new attraction coming to the Dollywood theme park in 2023: Dollywood’s Sweet Summer Nights drone and fireworks show has become a highlight of the visit. It takes to the skies above Dollywood again in 2023 as part of Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration (June 17-August 6).
Another favorite – the “Gazillion Bubble Show Aurora” – returns to give guests a mesmerizing thrill at DP’s Celebrity Theatre. While no official announcement has yet come from the Dollywood theme park, guests can see the start of construction around Wildwood Grove if they visit the park right now.
There are construction vehicles, yellow caution tape and gauge markers near the large light at the back of this part of the park where many people speculate the newest addition will be. What Is The New Attraction?
Both locations are the first two major projects in $500 million expansion plans announced by Dolly Parton and Dollywood Parks & Resorts President Eugene Naughton in June 2021. “Big Bear Mountain is a game changer for us,” said
Naughton. “First of all, it’s the longest ride we’ve ever built. Then, it has built-in audio that brings a great theme to life. In addition, its height requires that we can entertain even the youngest adventurers.
This is what is important to us; every member of the family can enjoy the thrill ride together, and for many younger riders it will be their first big roller coaster. It’s an important milestone for so many kids and we’re proud they’ll be able to say it happened at Dollywood.”
You’re probably wondering what the newest attraction will be. In the fall of 2021, the Pigeon Forge Planning Commission approved plans submitted by Dollywood for a 20-acre site plan. It is called “family attraction”. These site plans included a runway, a loading dock, a tent, a maintenance building, and a food court.

The Debut Of Big Bear Mountain

Big Bear Mountain will be the longest roller coaster in Dollywood history. The nearly 4,000-foot-long coaster features a built-in audio system, three separate launches, multiple broadcast hills, high-speed turns and tunnels. Despite all that excitement, this ride requires a 39-inch ride height to allow younger riders to enjoy the ride.
Thursday and Friday are often the best days for shorter lines, while Saturday and Tuesday are usually the busiest. The most popular months are usually March, November and July, while September, August and May are usually quieter.
To make the most of the day, we recommend arriving early and leaving late. Be sure to check live wait times on our website throughout the day to get ahead of the crowd. Gold and Diamond pass holders can also take advantage of another great benefit;

Big Bear Mountain adds to Dollywood’s impressive portfolio of world-class roller coasters. At $25 million, the ride is Dollywood’s largest attraction investment, while its 3,990-foot length makes it the park’s longest slide. Wildwood Grove has been named the industry’s best children’s area since its debut in 2019. With the addition of Big Bear Mountain, the award-winning area grows even bigger. Dollywood guests and season ticket holders can enjoy an additional 15 days of entertainment in 2023. Additional days are coming throughout the year, meaning guests can enjoy more of everything the 2023 season has to offer. But then we have
found out the Dollywood team managed to get us a lightning rod so we split our time and spent the rest of the night flying through the dark in my favorite hot rod. A behind-the-scenes tour is always on the agenda during Thrills in the Hills.
The Dollywood team rotates through various opportunities from coaster maintenance to the train shop. This year we were supposed to do an outdoor cable car tour, but the weather didn’t cooperate. I was very impressed that Dollywood had such a great backup plan: Dollywood’s VP of Marketing and Public Relations, Pete Owens, showed us around the inside of the Mystery Mine set-up area.

More Days To Have Fun
It coincides with the 50th anniversary of this monumental song and pays tribute to Dolly’s status as an iconic songwriter. The event will also recognize several prominent singers and songwriters (to be announced) with headline performances during the festival.
Emerging artists will also get a chance to shine at Showstreet Palace Theatre’s Songwriters Showcase. Fall brings more than a cool breeze to the Smoky Mountains! Dollywood’s Harvest Festival is a fall event that joyfully celebrates the changing colors of the season and spooky holidays.
Fall festivities at Dollywood include Great Pumpkin LumiNights, a gospel jubilee, seasonal food and more! The event starts at the end of September and runs until the end of October. Kids will delight in family rides like the Black Bear Trail, Dragonflier and The Mad Mockingbird.
When it’s hot outside, head to Wildwood Creek where you can cool off in the water on the splash pad and there are shaded areas and benches for parents to sit and watch their kids play.

The Tour
Plus, when you get hungry, you can head to the Till & Harvest Food Hall or one of the snack shops. This event is not only a roller coaster, but you will definitely have a roller coaster time!
The way it turned out for us this year was beautiful. With the storm coming, we started our exclusive Friday Night Drive Time (ERT) at Blazing Fury. That wasn’t the original plan, but it’s an option Dollywood can rely on in bad weather because it’s an indoor attraction.
“DreamMore Resort and Spa has been named a Top Theme Park Resort three times since 2018 (2018, 2021, 2022),” Naughton noted. “Our guests tell us that DreamMore is the best resort in our industry. We’re taking what we learned there and applying it to the HeartSong experience.

A Brand-New Celebration
Just over ¾ of a mile long, Big Bear Mountain offers Dollywood guests plenty of thrills, including three separate launches, multiple broadcast hills, carousels and high-speed tunnels, including a pass behind the falls. Big Bear Mountain requires a height of 39 inches and takes guests to a top speed of 48 mph.
Officials released a reverse video of the trip to the media today. Dollywood’s biggest park expansion, Wildwood Grove, gets even bigger! Debuting in spring 2023, Big Bear Mountain will be Dollywood’s longest coaster, taking guests of all ages on an unforgettable family expedition in search of Big Bear.
