However, we avoid staying in Casco Vie during the Panama Carnival because it is not safe to go there at night. Taxis are hard to come by during the holidays (same goes for Uber) and there is no subway to the old city.
So to escape after hours, you might have to walk, which involves crossing two neighborhoods: Caledonia (bordering the Mercado de Mariscos, or fish market) and Santa Ana. Another off-limits neighborhood at night, El Chorrillo, is south of Santa Ana, but out of your way.

water and sky in the distance are worth seeing during your visit.
