Jamaica In January 2023 – I have heard stories of travelers having to be quarantined in government facilities if they test positive before their departure date. Keep in mind that most hotels administer quarantine on property. However, if you are in a villa and another group arrives right after you, they may not be able to arrange adequate facilities and you may end up in a public facility.

So check with your hotel/villa and prepare a backup plan in case you test positive before your departure date. 29 Jun 2022 – Daniel James from Lear Culture, UK Traveller: “Every year I visit Jamaica without a hitch and in June 2022 I visited 4 different neighborhoods across the island.”

Jamaica remains very cautious about the virus even in 2022. People outside the cities are less worried, but locals are generally wary of tourists who may carry the virus, especially in more populated areas. March 15, 2022 – Kay, US Tour: “We arrived yesterday and were amazed at the number of people who arrived at the same time!!

We were unfortunately one of those who didn’t get Club MoBay before they sold out, but we were extremely jealous of those who did! The immigration line stretched from both sides of the immigration area, right down to the HOT and HUMID corridor.

The line was about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.. Hi Jennifer. I wish it was possible to predict what the situation will be in October or 2023. I can say that tourism is extremely important to Jamaica and they are doing their best to establish the necessary protocols to protect everyone’s health and keep tourism flowing.

Many tourists have spent their time in Jamaica without any problems during the past year. If I had to guess right now, I think the likelihood of a smooth, “normal” trip in October 2022 will be similar to the likelihood of 2023.

I would still recommend flexible or refundable bookings whenever possible, just in case. Passengers who test positive for Covid-19 and have a departing flight before the end of the quarantine period are released from isolation by a medical officer in accordance with destination country and airline regulations.

Thank you, Katie. Car rentals are available and are currently permitted for visitors. Because driving in Jamaica is so different from what most tourists are used to, it is often not a recommended option. We wrote more about transportation in Jamaica here.

What is the cost of flying to Jamaica MBJ or KIN International Airports now? Airports in Jamaica are usually busy and it is difficult to avoid the crowds. Check with your airlines for their mask requirements.

This blog is an invaluable source of information for Jamaica and has answered most of my questions. What I still have is about transportation. He says only approved Jamaican carriers are allowed. Does that mean we can’t rent a car and drive ourselves maybe from Negril to Runway Bay or Montego Bay Airport?

Thankfully, Katy S. Ocho Rios is open and nature parks and restaurants are ready to welcome visitors. They don’t check vaccination cards or COVID-19 tests, so that’s one less thing to think about. It was a holiday when I was there and many locals were out, so weekdays should be less busy.

Is It Safe To Travel To Jamaica Right Now?

There was heavy traffic on the main highway, thus adding to the travel time. Hi Michelle: Thanks for letting us know about Jamaica. Just wondering if you can confirm that the current curfew ends on December 10th?

It is history. t changed, right? I plan to travel to Kingston in January 2022. I am double vaccinated, non-resident, Canadian, and will be staying at a relative’s house in New Kingston for 2 weeks. Visiting Jamaica’s website, I understand that I will be a category 4 traveler and will be quarantined for 8 days, unless I take a PCR test at my own expense to reduce the quarantine time unless the result is negative.

Does it look good? thank you so much! Hello my best friend, Manzil’s wedding is postponed for one year. We are approaching her wedding day in July 2021 and I was wondering if we have to quarantine for 14 days?

We will be staying at an adults-only Iberostar hotel. Linda M. , USA (March 2021) – “My husband and I were on vacation in Negril, Jamaica towards the end of March. Travelers are welcomed and encouraged.

Although Jamaica has established “safe corridors”, the coastal economy is suffering and tourism is lacking. We were able to do a quick test directly across the street from our resort in Negril on the beach. Our hotel paid for the test and it was very effective.

We got the results in a few hours. Everything is open for visitors. It’s definitely quieter than usual, but we did everything we usually do when we’re in Negril. Thanks, Lindsay. Yes, under the current rules for international travel back to the US, you will need to be tested before leaving Jamaica for the US.

Some restaurants include this test in their packages, otherwise there are many testing sites in Jamaica for this purpose. If you test positive, you must be quarantined for 14 days, in self-isolation at accommodation in Jamaica, at your own expense (unless quarantine is already included in your resort package).

You can read previous travelers’ quarantine experiences in our post at the end of the August update. I will say that everyone’s experience will be different, but it is very busy right now, so please plan ahead and plan to get to the airport early and expect to spend time on arrival at MoBay.

This post about Japan… Hello and thanks for visiting our blog. We barely passed through the airport, but I know the highest number of people coming through MBJ airport was during the December holidays. Arrivals haven’t returned to that level yet, but yes, you can expect the holidays to be busier.

We will try to find someone to report the wait time through the airport in our next update. Hello and thank you for visiting our blog. Dunns River and other approved attractions are still open to visitors.

However, activities that take place outside of approved restaurants and hotels are subject to curfew as you are not allowed to use transport during curfew for unnecessary reasons. February 2022 – Charmaine, Jamaican: “The virus is spreading rapidly in Jamaica and various businesses and government agencies have slowed down as many of their staff have fallen ill.

The positivity rate reached approximately 65%. At the end of January, the positivity rate was around 33%. In terms of crime, for decades, travel to Jamaica was fraught with danger. Government travel warnings about crime in Jamaica are not new, including when we lived there from 2012 to 2014 as Peace Corps volunteers.

The rain disappears in November, leaving the skies clear on the island and the temperatures pleasant. Hotels, restaurants and bars reopen, but the beaches remain largely uninhabited until mid-November. This is the best time to visit Jamaica.

There is still a slight risk of hurricanes, but it is steadily decreasing through the end of the year. Visitors looking for a winter escape start arriving in droves in mid-December, meaning you should book early if you want to visit around Christmas.

hi there. Restaurants are open and many offer take away. Some beaches are currently closed due to increased transmission of the virus in the community. Please note that if you are not staying in approved accommodation, quarantine is in effect.

In general, tourists are encouraged not to visit local businesses outside of approved attractions. You can find options from the drop down lists on this page: https://www.visitjamaica.com/travelauthorization/ Hi Ron. It looks like you will visit Jamaica in the tourism category.

In this case, as long as you live in the resistance corridor, test negative and do not show symptoms, you will not need to quarantine. Apart from approved hotels, you can take approved transport to other approved places within the flexible corridor.

I understand that the church is unlikely to be on the approved list, because the aim is to reduce exposure to local communities, but there may be an acceptable location where you will be allowed to get married.

A list of approved flexible corridor locations can be found here: https://www.visitjamaica.com/travelauthorization/#Approved. My second tip would be to ask the hotel for recommendations, as they have more information. In late fall and early winter, the Caribbean’s hurricane season brings down the winds, leaving clear skies and average temperatures between 75 and 85 degrees.

For the best price, try to get there before the holidays start in mid-December (the threat of rainy weather usually lowers prices on most routes in the region). Is it possible for Jamaicans to stay with tourists in these hotels?

My friend wants to meet me in Jamaica. We want to spend holidays together and stay in the same hotel. Hi, we got covid at the end of December, we are fully recovered. Does Jamaica release Canadians who test positive and have a doctor’s certificate of fitness to fly, proof that they have covid-19, etc., as the US and many other Caribbean islands allow?

Recent Travelers, USA (Jan 2021) – “[Regarding MBJ lines and wait times], it’s as chaotic as ever. There may be fewer flights, but they still appear organized in groups unless your flight is delayed, etc. Our flight should have been safe at a reasonable distance, but we ended up with three other flights.

Still too busy to get out. Hi Jared. I followed a friend who just flew to Jamaica and said that insurance is included in the price of your flight. There is no need to sign up.

Thanks for your questions – I will update our information in the post. hi there! My partner and I are traveling from Canada to Jamaica at the end of April. You mentioned that the COVID test requirements will be in effect until April 15th – does that include completing the antigen test within 72 hours?

Hello and thank you for visiting our blog. According to Visit Jamaica, testing requirements only apply to those 12 years of age and older. So your son will not need a covid test to travel to Jamaica at this time.

My understanding is that tourists should only use approved transport and tour operators within the Resilient Corridor which can be found here: https://www.visitjamaica.com/travelauthorization/#Approved (I don’t see rental car agencies involved ) I hope that helps. The average temperature is between 70 and 80, but the weather can be a little rainy.

Because of the fog, golf courses and beaches are relatively quiet, and hotels offer incentives to visit in spring. Note that hurricane season technically begins on June 1. Covering all seven continents, Globe shows you how you can see the world with us.

A nationwide curfew applies in public places. There will be no curfew restrictions on private beaches within the resort.

Once you are at the resort, you will be able to move around freely. However, attractions, visits and non-essential traffic and non-essential transportation are subject to curfew, even if they are located in a flexible corridor.

Hello and thank you for visiting our blog. Countries that are currently prohibited from visiting Jamaica within 14 days are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, India or Trinidad and Tobago. The deadline is set for August 10.

Of course, there is a possibility of adding other countries, but it is not possible to predict this at this time. My recommendation for travel planning during Covid is to be flexible and accept last minute changes or wait (change your schedule) until restrictions are lifted to avoid extra stress – it’s really up to you how much uncertainty you want.

Are you ready to embrace your journey? Previously, passengers over the age of 12 had to submit a negative PCR or COVID-19 antigen test result from an approved medical laboratory to check in for a flight to Jamaica.

This is no longer the case in April 2022. This post originally appeared on our personal blog when we were still in the Peace Corps. It’s revived here as part of our series on Jamaican culture.

Staying at home is not unique to the Peace Corps. They are an integral part of many transformative, cross-cultural programs. Sharing life with another family, being welcomed into their home…
