Loyola New Orleans Academic Calendar – Students should be expected to attend the required number of minutes regardless of period length or teaching style. Shorter deadlines require more intense engagement because the same number of minutes can be achieved in a shorter amount of time.

In all examples, a 3-credit course requires 6,300 minutes of student engagement, regardless of whether the course lasts 14 weeks, 8 weeks, or 2 weeks. Students should consider enrollment expectations when planning one’s study schedule and should not expect courses taken in shorter periods to include fewer courses.

Library Resources To support their coursework, students will have access to the learning management system, Loyola email address, and Loyola ID card for purposes of library privileges. Violation of these privileges is governed by university and library policies, including the Code of Conduct.

Second Bachelors Degree

Re-Enrollment for Medical Withdrawal To re-enroll to the University after a medical withdrawal, students must contact the University Counseling Center to schedule an appointment with the Director of Counseling and Health Services. Students must provide a letter from their primary care provider that includes the date of treatment, progress of treatment, treatment plan, and instructions for continuing college work.

Once the student receives permission from both the primary care provider and the director of counseling and medical services, the student is then allowed to register for the course. If the student has other registration accounts, those accounts must be cleared with the appropriate department for registration.

Students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree can apply for a second degree if the second degree is different from the first degree. Usually, a second degree is discouraged and a bachelor’s degree is encouraged.

However, in rare cases, two degrees may fit a student’s academic goals. Students who have completed a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University or other accredited institutions may earn a second bachelor’s degree from Loyola if they meet the following criteria:

According to accreditation standards, Loyola University New Orleans considers all credit certificates as 3 credit hour certificates or 120 credit hour undergraduate programs.

Students must obtain approval from the department advisor/chair and associate dean of the courses they are applying for before enrolling in courses at other institutions. Students must be in good academic standing, have an overall GPA of 2.00 or higher, and have no disciplinary problems.

If required by the host university, the student must request a “good report” from the dean. Individual colleges may have additional requirements or regulations. Students may change colleges, degrees, or majors by completing a major change request through their LORA account.

Students must allow 5 business days for processing of documents. Students with a cumulative grade point average below 2.0 may change majors in another college with the approval of the dean of the college to which they wish to enroll.

Change Of College Degree Or Major

Undergraduate students may take one course in each of their final two semesters with the approval of their dean. Graduate coursework hours earned and quality points are applied only to the student’s graduate career. If students wish to receive graduate credit for undergraduate work, they must submit an application to the dean’s office within the first month of classes.

Under no circumstances may course credit hours and points be applied to both graduate and undergraduate students. Credit certificates are non-credit programs and their transcripts must be different from credit programs. Certificates of completion and other documentation may be provided in accordance with best practices for continuing education units (CEUs).

Non-credit certificate programs are not bound by SACSCOC rules regarding the awarding of academic credit, but units that offer non-credit certificates are still subject to SACSCOC practices on strategic planning, good governance, and connection between work and the university’s mission.

In the case of law students who are invited to practice, the exemption is granted under the American Bar Standards, which state that students must graduate within five years of starting law school.

Graduate Courses Taken By Undergraduates

For more than 30 years, the College of Law has promoted the representation of low-income and at-risk populations through the Gillis Long Poverty Law Center. Students and graduates have the opportunity to gain experience in public interest law and also provide support to members of the public who may not otherwise have access to legal services.

Students participate in the Law Center through internships and pro bono programs. A diploma awarded to a student upon graduation contains the university’s information, the student’s name, the university’s distinction and the degree title. Diplomas are awarded only to students who have released their financial and legal obligations to the University and have completed the overseas questionnaire.

Loyola College of Law is known for leading experiential learning. At Loyola, students not only learn legal theory and how to “think like a lawyer,” they also learn by doing. Beginning in the first year, students research, write and advocate for clients in simulations as part of the advocacy program.

In the third year, students have the opportunity to serve real clients under the guidance of faculty at the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic. Loyola University maintains a number of resources to support a comprehensive ap
proach to academic advising, including faculty advisors and academic advisors.

Certificate Not For Credit

Counselors are available to students throughout the school year, but their role is especially important during orientation and registration. Students often work with their advisors to select their programs of study, address potential academic concerns, and help sequence their courses.

Certification is awarded to students based on completion of a minimum of 60 program hours at the undergraduate level, 120 hours at the graduate level, and 30 hours at the master’s level (SACSCOC Core Requirement 9.2).

Degree is eligible for institutional and Title IV financial aid. According to SACSCOC Standard 9.4, at least 25% of a student’s credit hours must be earned at Loyola. According to the SACSCOC 9.5 standard, at least one-third of the graduate program credits must be earned at Loyola.

Specific residency requirements are listed in the University Bulletin. Online and Off-Site Programs All online and extended learning environments (including internships and internships) are considered “classrooms”. Admission Decisions Beyond The Numbers

Consultation with the Office of the Provost and the Office of Financial Aid is recommended for individual programs. These rules govern the types of enrollment at Loyola University New Orleans in addition to the admissions process.

This includes initiating action steps such as (but not limited to) auditing courses, changing majors, applying for a doctorate, or submitting a medical leave or withdrawal. The Veterans Certification and Commissioning process can be found in this section.

In addition, these rules describe the process related to classroom discipline and expulsion from the University. Details of the university’s courses can be found in the course catalogue. Note: Students with a cumulative GPA of less than 2.00 (undergraduate) or 3.00 (graduate) are not eligible for exemption.

Students who request a leave of absence but have a cumulative GPA below the minimum will be dismissed from the entire institution and must reapply for admission. To achieve graduation, students must complete a specific undergraduate program and college requirements, must have at least a 2.0 Loyola cumulative grade point average, major average, and minor average, and if a minor, must have completed their last 30 hours.

A typical undergraduate course load is 15-18 hours. Students can study up to 23 hours at no extra charge. However, students must be approved by their associate dean to study more than 20 hours per semester.

Students on academic probation cannot spend more than 14 hours studying. All students are assigned an academic advisor. Faculty members are usually appointed to advise students who have shown an interest in their particular field of study.

Cross Enrollments – Graduate

Students can obtain the name of their assigned faculty advisor from Loyola’s Records Online Access (LORA). It is an alternative digital representation of achievements that are not a training or certification program in itself. We now have transcripts showing when students completed service learning in the course.

Another example is a language and culture that has developed a language “label” based on the curriculum and external examinations administered as transcript marks. A proposal for a trademark must detail how the trademark will be implemented.

Transcription notes are subject to character limitations as specified by the Registrar’s Office. The initial classification is determined by the Admissions Office based on the certificate and application submitted by the student. Classification may be changed in the student’s first semester by the Admissions Office until November 1 in the spring semester, March 1 in the spring semester, and two weeks after spring registration.

Students are not guaranteed admission into Loyola College of Law, because the College of Law has the final authority to make
all admission decisions. Interested students should consult with their dean as well as the university’s Law Office of Admissions.

Residency – Undergraduate

Loyola’s Center for Environment, Land, and Law (CELL) brings together students, faculty, environmental professionals, and community advocates to study and respond to the world’s most challenging environmental issues. From combating toxic pollution to restoring footprints, CELL focuses on improving the health and well-being of the Gulf community.

Through CELL’s Environmental Policy Lab, students work under the guidance of expert attorneys to complete semester-long projects with real clients on topics including oil and gas drilling, endangered species protection, climate change, urban agriculture, fisheries management, and more.

A student called to serve may appoint a person with power of attorney to oversee matters pending at Loyola. This appointment should be provided in writing to the Registrar’s Office prior to the student’s departure. Student Health Services provides primary care and education about personal health problems for all Loyola students – residential and non-residential, full-time and part-time – who provide a complete medical history form.

Treatment is confidential and free, although patients are responsible for prescriptions, lab work, x-rays, or referring hospital services. Our Jesuit tradition teaches that education occurs in terms of the development of the whole person. Our mission is to provide each student with the resources, support, and guidance necessary to achieve personal and professional success both in law school and beyond.

Medical Withdrawal From The University

Law school can be stressful. It can also be a requirement – not only for students, but also for friends and family. Spouse and children. Loyola Law has resources to help students manage personal, professional, and academic priorities, cope with anxiety and stress, and get the most out of their time at Loyola and in New Orleans.

Upon completion of all course requirements and certification for graduation by the student’s dean, the official distinction will be recorded on the transcript and noted on the passport. The difference observed in the commencement program is based on the cumulative grades of the previous term and therefore may not be the same as the official difference.
