Michigan Tech Calendar – Memorial Union Building (MUB), Ballroom A Student Development Complex (SDC), Pool, Multipurpose Room Throughout the remainder of the fall semester, the University will continue surveillance testing and contact tracing to identify cases and ensure campus safety.

Testing will increase after Thanksgiving. Thanks to generous support provided to the university by the Portage Health Foundation and the purchase of new equipment, Michigan Tech will more than double its current testing capacity by the end of November.

On Monday 12 October 2020, we returned to the third level of health and safety. As the number of COVID-19 cases on campus remains low, we currently expect it to remain at level three until the end of the semester.

Planning is underway for a COVID-modified version of our traditional face-to-face New Year’s Eve ceremony on December 19th. More details about this program will be announced as soon as the Commencement Committee has had a chance to finalize its plans.

At the Rozsa Performing Arts Center, as has been the case since the beginning of the semester, individual instructors will have wide latitude in determining how their courses will be taught for the remainder of the fall semester.

Most laboratory and research courses, including design and entrepreneurship courses, will continue in direct or hybrid mode until the end of the semester. Many lecture-based courses will continue to be offered in an in-person or hybrid mode.

If a personal instructor plans to change the instructions for their courses that will be effective after the Thanksgiving holiday, they must notify their students of their plans after Thanksgiving as soon as possible – preferably by November 1, 2020 at the earliest.

Using Zoom for breakout sessions in small groups and encouraging students to conduct Zoom-based study sessions are two ways instructors can encourage student engagement with the curriculum and their peers. There are many other ways to help students connect with each other and their instructors;

A selection of informative calendars are available to guide you: the academic calendar, the billing and reimbursement schedule, and the final exam schedule for the current semester.

This calendar will help keep you informed of deadlines and commitments. Deans and department chairs are now being asked to work with instructors and the Registrar’s Office to review the course schedule for the spring semester.
