Secret Lair Advent Calendar – Wizards of the Coast hasn’t yet revealed all of the cards that will be included in the drop, aside from the fact that there will be one for each Magic life year. He confirmed on his website, “These cards are not only some of Magic’s highlights, they also include tournament-winning cards from all those years.
Not only are these nostalgic, they are tried and tested tournaments. Winners (almost all) you want to play.” MTG Arena will also get Shadows Over Innistrad this year. “Magic: The Gathering Arena will also revisit some of the older sets,” said Blake Rasmussen.

Artist Series[]
Will you just go to Mordor? Or lead you to Caragor, which will destroy the orc legions? Secret Lair is a “sub-brand” of Magic: The Gathering that groups existing cards into small collectible pseudo-collections called “Drops” with whimsical themes and new art styles.[1][2]
The name was inspired by Un-Card R&D’s Secret Lair.[3] With The Walking Dead series, only the alternative art of reprinting remained. Mark Heggen announced that R&D sees the Secret Lair platform as the foundational platform for product testing, allowing them to try things that are not possible with regular products.
He admitted it was art until 2020, but they expanded the concept to appeal to audiences of different sizes.[4] If they identify a small group who will be excited about a particular product, it might fit them: “Like a Magic game, Secret Lair is always trying new things and evolving – the first year is focused on art, that is.”

In June 2021, it was announced that for the upcoming Universes Beyond Secret Lairs, Wizards of the Coast plans to create and print canonical versions of the mechanically unique Universes Beyond cards approximately six months after release.
New versions will be hosted in Magic’s Multiverse[7] and available in the roster. Non-canon cards and canon cards are considered game equivalent, meaning you can only play four copies (or one copy) of either the Magic version or the Universes Beyond version in your deck.

Starting with the all-natural Superdrop, all Secret Lair Drop packaging has been shrunk to less than half the original volume, is made entirely of recyclable paper (with the exception of the plastic card packaging), and contains 91% less plastic by volume.
The April 2022 Superdrop introduced even smaller envelope packaging for the usual, less material usage and lighter weight, creating less waste and making distribution more sustainable.[8] It then limits the slim black box packaging to most Secret Lair co-branded drops (e.g. Street Fighter) and most philanthropic drops (e.g. Extra Life 2021).

Wizards of the Coast has revealed all 30 cards in its 30th Anniversary Countdown Set, a sort of Secret Lair reveal calendar set to open throughout December and featuring an MTG card for each year of Magic: The Gathering.
Secret Lair’s first series consisted of reprints of alternative art. Wizards of the Coast tried to work with artists they wouldn’t normally do: street performers, comic artists, album cover designers, etc. Alternatively, they used traditional magicians who worked with very unconventional art briefs.
Some later series used the original artwork along with alternate card frames. I hope we will see some familiar faces on this team. Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn, Sauron – the list is endless. Just watch how you play, adventurer.
The fate of Middle-earth is in your hands. Although fan response was overwhelmingly negative, The Walking Dead was a best-selling release, attracting buyers from outside the Magic universe. This prompted the company to continue experimenting in this area[5] and creating the Universes Beyond line of products.
2019 The Secret Lair Team was awarded the Heroes of the Realm: Guardian of the Secret Lair card. It was also announced during today’s stream that the Dominaria Remastered set will feature retro frames and brand new art.
Maps like Birds of Paradise have standard frame, retro frame, and no frame options where new art is spilled all over the map. Jester’s Cap and Time Stretch also showed their chances. Along with announcing the release of the MTG core set, Wizards of the Coast also announced the 2022 line of Secret Lair and Universes Beyond products.
This set promises the most interesting twists on Magic: The Gathering rules and mechanics. The 30th Anniversary Countdown Kit is quite pricey, but it’s nothing compared to the $999 MTG Anniversary Edition, which caused quite a stir among fans but also taught more people about proxies.
