Uc Santa Cruz Academic Calendar – Exchange and visiting students have the opportunity to register for their courses before arriving at UC Santa Cruz. Students are encouraged to work with their home university advisors to explore UC Santa Cruz course options and develop a plan of study that allows for flexibility if no first choices are available.

At UC Santa Cruz, most courses are taught as lectures or, when the class is small enough for meaningful discussion, as a seminar. Most courses require entry into a secondary discussion section scheduled at a different time than the main course.

Undergraduate courses are classified as either lower division or upper division. Lower division courses (numbered 1–99) are designed for freshmen and sophomores, but are open to more advanced students. Upper division courses (numbered 100–199) are intended for juniors and seniors, but are open to freshmen and sophomores with sufficient background and consent of the course instructor.

It is not possible to know at this time whether the COVID-19 pandemic will result in changes to student housing and living for the 2020-2021 academic year. Therefore, we do not offer a home warranty. Graduate courses (numbered 200–299) are either restricted to graduate students or are open only to students who can demonstrate to the instructor that they have completed satisfactory upper-division courses (or equivalent) based on the subject of the course.
