The term of office is four years. Each county in the state of Nebraska has a county court clerk who performs court-related administrative duties. Nebraska law requires counties with a population of 7,000 to have a county court clerk elected by voters.
District courts are courts of general jurisdiction and are organized into 12 judicial districts to serve all 93 counties in the state. Cass County is in the Second Judicial District, which also includes Sarpy and Otto counties.
Although district courts have concurrent jurisdiction with district courts, they primarily hear all criminal cases, equity cases, domestic relations cases, and civil cases involving more than $53,000. It also functions as an appellate court in adjudicating appeals from district courts and various administrative agencies.
SERVICES OF THIS OFFICE In addition to being an administrative officer of the court, District Court clerks are responsible for keeping records of criminal and civil cases, maintaining court records, and processing judgments. The officer also serves as a passport agent and is an ex officio jury commissioner for the court.

US Department of State (call this office for current fees or go online), processing fee cash (processing/county fee – currently $35.00 per application) and photo ID, such as a driver’s license (additional photo ID will be required for applicants with a state driver’s license).

How can I be deferred or excused from jury duty? A request must be made to the Circuit Court Judge or Jury Commissioner (District Court Clerk) in writing or by email to [email protected] stating what your difficulties are at this time.
The District Court Judge will consider each application individually and act on that application. You will then be notified of the judge’s decision. How was I selected as a juror? Jurors are selected at random from current lists of persons 19 years of age and older who reside in Cass County, Nebraska, who are registered voters or licensed drivers, or who have a state-issued identification card.
