SBHSN is a private grantmaking organization that supports public schools and public charter schools to implement and expand access to quality behavioral health and general pediatric services on school campuses. Grant funding is available for the 2021-2022 school year and is intended for children living in rural and urban communities.

LBPA uses a comprehensive approach to help teachers and school leaders effectively teach reading and implement a continuous system of monitoring student progress. The law allows MSOs to place literacy coaches in schools where students show the most academic difficulty.

Coaches work directly with teachers and administrators to help them become more effective teachers. Currently, 56 literacy teachers are working in 95 schools and 51 districts. The Claiborne School District has approved two (2) reopening schedules, one hybrid schedule, and one distance learning schedule.

Parents can choose between two fixed plan options. Below is a brief description of each plan. When parents enroll in the plan of their choice, the counter schedule for the fall semester (August-December) is no longer selected.

Third grade students are given up to three times to take the exam. If the student fails the first exam, a second exam will be held on May 9-13. If the student fails to pass the re-examination, the re-examination will be held between June 20 and July 8.

Schools and districts intervene with students who fail exams. The Literacy-Based Advertising Act (LBPA) passed in 2013 was designed to help students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 develop better reading skills. The law was amended in 2016 to require all 3rd graders in Mississippi’s public schools to score at 3 or higher on the MAAP-ELA reading section in order to advance to 4th grade.

Discounts apply to students with certain disabilities, English language learners, or students with prior learning.
