All ETHS coaches share the same goal with the school and the Evanston community: to change and improve the lives of all students. This year will be my fourth year on the D65 calendar committee and I have heard no evidence as to why things should be this way.
Yes, that’s right, we can land on a major holiday weekend when school is normally in session (we know every state doesn’t consider Columbus Day a school holiday, as we travel to Wisconsin on Monday). However, we may request permission from the Illinois State Board of Education to hold certain “optional” schools such as Pulaski Day.
I recall that more than half of the districts in Illinois do exactly that. Effort: We know that effort is every athlete’s ability to support their team. It’s the spark that turns a hopeless game into a winning moment.

ETHS’s commitment to women’s and men’s sports is equal to all sports. We encourage student-athletes to participate in multiple sports and extracurriculars. With 36 IHSA State Championships and top 10 finishes, the ETHS Athletic Program is considered the best in the state of Illinois.

A quick look at the D65 calendar for October would make any working parent of school-age children gasp. Last Thursday was a non-participation day (Yom Kippur), this Monday the kids went to Columbus Day, and today is another early morning dismissal.
While sabbatical and professional development time for teachers is not a bad thing, I think the problem is the cumulative effect such a disparate schedule has on both children and their families. I am grateful, I am grateful to the members of the school board, who are trying to make this a better district for all of our children.

My daycare took 2 children to another parent who didn’t get to the city center until The other was eventually able to make other arrangements. Right now the beginning starts this Friday (10/24) which is a half day for the kids (and I think it’s a full day for the middle school?) I feel sorry for the parents who have kids in different schools.

I sure do love paying those high property taxes (have you gotten your tax bill recently?) and being treated like a smelly dump when I go to school board meetings.

You can mention Dr. Murphy, a well-paid district employee, but I don’t think it’s fair to criticize people who spend countless hours away from their families, jobs and interests to benefit District 65 on a volunteer basis.

jobs. We must all work together to help families support their children academically and financially, because families who are in turmoil during difficult times create stressful homes and that does not lead to good exams or a happy society….
So, if a consistent school schedule is good for kids and less stressful for parents with work and family demands, we all have to ask why aren’t we doing it better? Do you want something else?
Vote on a new school board. 4 members will be elected in April – choose candidates who listen to community issues and do not turn them away. Let’s start with the students. I admit that I am not a teacher or academic researcher, but the idea that fewer interruptions in teaching lead to better academic results seems like common sense.
As we have an increasing number of children having to attend summer and remedial programs because their reading and math skills are inconsistent, more time in school for everyone would be better, not less. are you going
