When Preschoolers See Calendars Connected To Their Lives They Will Re-Create Them In Their Play
They draw symbols and write letters on the squares and sometimes put stickers on them as I do. I print and photocopy small calendar pages and add them to my writing center for the kids to use.
In addition to figuring out what the next episode is, classes can also learn how many days are left before something happens. Classes can also keep a graph of the number of sunny, cloudy, rainy, and snowy days during the school year. It is not clear to children whether they understand the concepts of time in days, weeks and months.

Fast but very effective and full of learning! I always start by marking the month and day when it sounds like it to my students. For example, “Today is September 4”. Next, my calendar assistant uses a pointer and points to the numbers as we remember the count so far.
Jumping or stepping while counting down the days is fun! The more the better! I try to put as many events on the calendar as possible. Events give us meaningful reasons to count out loud and ask questions about events and time.
Every Friday we have a dance party during music and action. Maybe you can do Spanish, the library, or yoga a few days each week. Put them on the calendar. Now that all the numbers are sorted, we can add the events!
