Preliminary hearings in county court are used to determine whether there is enough evidence to establish probable cause in a felony criminal case. If the accused appears to have committed the crime and there is probable cause to believe that the person who committed the crime is responsible, the accused must be bound over to trial in the District Court.

County courts have concurrent jurisdiction with district courts in certain divorce cases and other civil cases involving $53,000 or less. They have concurrent jurisdiction with the district court over felony and traffic violation cases, but almost all cases are prosecuted in the county courts.
