Slhs Calendar – Our teachers use a variety of methods to facilitate learning, including differentiated instruction. Progress is assessed through ‘authentic assessment’, which allows students to demonstrate what they have learned. Our GPA scores are based on a 4.00 scale and are not weighted.

Facilities include a large media library, counseling center, eight computer labs, technology in all classrooms, an auditorium, a lecture hall, a career center, two triple gymnasiums, a swimming pool and a mirror dance studio. WSLH broadcasts daily from our in-house television studio.

Multiple athletic fields and a soccer stadium (also known as the Jungle) support our student-athletes. Our technology department prepares students for Microsoft, Cisco, and CompTIA certification tests. We also offer OTC (Oakland Technical Center) which offers 14 different technology programs located near Wixom.

SHLS students are enrolled at the Southwest Campus. Juniors and seniors spend half of each school day studying a specific program of their choice. As a reminder, parents of elementary and middle school students are encouraged to check the KAC to track their current six- or nine-week grades and grade point averages.

OAK reflects the most obvious academic achievements of students. Enrollment in the Academy’s elective courses provides students with vocational and academic preparation for post-secondary education and/or career paths. Students enrolled in the Academy’s electives will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of career experiences, including shadowing, mentoring, and/or internships at local businesses.

SpeakUp is an anonymous reporting platform that students, parents and guardians can use to report safety issues, violence, threats of violence, drug use, and any concerns related to student physical or mental health.

SpeakUp can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play. It is also available on all district websites, computers and district facilities. SpeakUp empowers the Katy ISD community to anonymously provide valuable information to district administration and law enforcement that will keep our students safe.

The South Lyon Community School District covers 83 square miles, including South Lyon and several small towns spread across three districts. The school district consists of two middle schools, two middle schools and seven elementary schools.

Our Annual Dinner Auction, The Connections We Make: Shoreland Event, will be held on March 25, 2023 at the Shoreland Gym. We will have dinner, silent and live auctions and dynamic speaker Shawn Seipler. Mr. Seipler is a 1994 Shoreland alum and CEO of Clean Up the World, a social enterprise with a mission to save millions of lives around the world.

Electronic confirmation of both handbooks is part of the annual renewal for students. South Lyon High School set the following goals as part of the AdvancED process. These goals were developed through a survey of teachers as well as a review of MEAP and classroom assessment data.

Three goals we focus on during this process: What we do… Our curriculum is aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum and Michigan Career Pathways. Our course offerings include traditional college preparatory courses, dual enrollment options, independent study, and award-winning programs in the visual, performing, and technical arts.

Parents can fill out a student device waiver request form to purchase Chromebooks for their students to use at home. As with other Internet-connected devices, Chromebooks allow students to log into MyKaty Cloud and access campus resources, including Canvas, encyclopedias, databases, and other learning tools.
