Picou explains that the modified calendar, sometimes called a balanced or year-round calendar, has four 45-day periods with a 15-day break between them, along with a 30-day summer break instead of the traditional 60-day summer. Dropout District will spend the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year gathering data and considering whether switching to a modified schedule is the right decision for Tupelo.
If the TPSD Supervisory Board makes changes to the schedule, they will use the following school year to work out details and finalize the schedule before implementing it. Picou said the district will host two Webex meetings for TPSD stakeholders to give those unable to attend face-to-face meetings to ask questions and share thoughts, hold discussion groups at various schools in the district and post more online.
