One day, Sri Lakshminrisimha, the lord of Ahobilam, appeared in Srinivasachari’s dream and told him to come to the temple city of Ahobilam. After conferring with his Acharya, he proceeded to Ahobilam. In Ahobilam, the Lord Himself initiated Srinivasachari as a sanyasam (monastery) and gave it the title “Satakopa Jeeyar”.

The area where Ahobilam now stands was once the palace seat of the Demon King Hiranyakashipu and Nagar. It was the palace where Shri Narasimha emerged from the pillar and killed Hiranyakashipu after a fierce battle.
It was many years ago. Nature took its course and several mountains and hills were formed thus preserving the area where Lord Vishnu appeared. He is now known as Nava Narasimha Kshetra. Mention of Ahobilam can be found in many Puranas and other religious texts.
The main temple in the urban area known as Lower Ahobilam is dedicated to Prahladavarada. It means “Lord who always blesses and protects Prahlada”. The temple is surrounded by three Prakaras and there are several Mandapams in adjacent areas.

The sanctum sanctorum of the temple houses the Utsav Murti of some of the hill temples. This is due to the difficulties encountered in the daily worship of these temples. A little away from the Narasimha temple is a shrine dedicated to Sri Venkateswara.

ng Krishnadevaraya. Rahu Kalam, Yamagandami, Gulikai, Durmuhurtham and Varjyam should be avoided as these times are not auspicious. The time remaining after their elimination is considered Shubhi.
Abhijit Muhuratam and Amrit Kalam are considered auspicious. If an unfavorable time coincides with a favorable time, the unfavorable time period must be removed from the favorable time window. according to legend, when green grass was placed in the cave, it caught fire and emitted smoke. Several great Rishis once lived there; knowing that in Kali’s time great places would become common janapadas, they set out for the northern lands, covering the cave of Narasimha with rocks.
Lower Ahobilam
This is why this place is traditionally called Narasimha Kshetra. Then one of the nine Nrisimhas of Ahobilam named Malolan Athivan jumped into Satakopani’s hands (see picture at right) and told him to roam the country.
Thus began an institution called Sri Ahobila Matam and Lord Malolani’s journeys from village to village to enable devotees to undertake Panca Samskaram and perform Bhara Nyasam before the lotus feet of the Lord.
