Provisional admission may be granted, and a grade of ‘B’ or higher in ongoing prerequisite courses is expected. All incomplete courses must be completed prior to matriculation at TouroCOM. Arts and Humanities, Sports and Recreation CASPer (a computer-based assessment of personal characteristics by McMaster to assess applicants for social intelligence and professionalism skills or referred to as certain non-academic or soft skills) was developed.
Spring
It is used by various health professional programs (physical therapy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing and occupational therapy). In CASPer, you’ll see a video or written scenario, then have five minutes to answer three open-ended questions. Your answers are scored by trained raters from each area.
CASPer takes 60-90 minutes and, like Preview, is remotely controlled. The preview is designed to help schools identify candidates who can do the right thing when faced with difficult situations. As with every aspect of applying to medical school, this is only one piece of a complex puzzle.
Make sure you understand the nine core competencies and why they are important. This is achieved by taking practice tests and studying the reasoning behind each answer. As a side benefit, the preview can introduce you to skills you can use in your future practice as a physician!
Increase your chances of being accepted to medical school by working with a medical school admissions specialist who guides you through every step of the application process. Check out our medical school admissions counseling and consulting services to find out how we can help you get accepted.
How Does The Preview Differ From The Casper?
Once you apply, AACOMAS will access TouroCOM on your main application. The Admissions Office will contact selected eligible applicants with an invitation to complete an online secondary application. If invited, you must submit: Scores from the MCAT taken 3 years prior to the year of planned enrollment are accepted (eg, January 2021 scores are acceptable for Fall 2024 enrollment while December 2020 scores are not).

Please join us on Monday, March 6th from 4 to 5:30 pm in San Jacinto Residence Hall Multipurpose Room 207C for the HHRS event with Stephen Casper: “Punch Drunk Slugnuts: A Cultural History of Violence, Stigma, Sports, and Violent Brains.”
It will be a hybrid. It took the AAMC eight years to plan and create a preview aimed at helping medical schools identify applicants with strong professional and interpersonal skills. These characteristics appear to be as important to future physicians as the more commonly assessed scientific inquiry skills, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and communication (which are measured by the MCAT and GPA).
The preview identified the following nine (as outlined on the AAMC website): August 22 — Term begins September 2 — Census Date September 5 — Labor Day Holiday October 10-14 — Midweek October 17-18 — Fall Break November 4 — Advisory Day November 10 — Institutional
Secondary Application
Publication Deadline November 23-25 — December 17-18, Thanksgiving Holiday End of December — End-of-term scores are released approximately one month after the exam is taken. Only schools participating in the preview will see the scores. Points are not expected to expire, but the number of years the points remain valid depends on each participating school.
Since Preview is new, it is likely that some schools will use it on a trial basis or on a limited basis (ie to help manage their waiting lists). As the intersection between ‘design’ and ‘research’ is still debated and open to interpretation, the CAMD Design Center promotes and organizes the annual “Design Research Week” in collaboration with the Design Museum Foundation, CHeT, the Arts Centre.
Bouve College of Health Sciences, Lab of Magic and Medicine, and more. Friday, March 24 All Design Research Week events will be held in the Design Center in Ryder Hall. Candidates applying for the DO program must fulfill the following prerequisites in their undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
Please note that the minimum grade for any course listed below is ‘C’ or above. Additionally, grades of ‘P’ or ‘S’ awarded in the Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 semesters are also acceptable. (Computer-Based Assessment or Personality Trait Sample) CASPER™ is a computer-based situational judgment test designed to assess key personal characteristics considered important to a student’s success in medical school and, ultimately, as a practicing physician.

Some of these include professionalism, ethical foundations, empathy, compassion and cultural sensitivity. Casper™ allows you to access computers with audio capabilities and can be transported anywhere in a quiet location with a reliable Internet connection. AAMC’s new exam, PREview, was beta tested by two medical schools (University of California, Davis and University of Minnesota) in the 2019-2020 cycle.
The group expanded to include Geisinger, Morehouse and the University of Alabama, Birmingham in 2020-2021, and beginning in the 2022-2023 cycle, all medical schools are invited to use AAMC Preview, but not all are recommended or required.
Please check each schoo
l’s website and MSAR profile to see if the program you are applying to uses Preview and, if they require it, recommend or accept research only. Currently, Des Moines University’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program is the only DO program that recommends PREVIEW.
Advanced registration is required. Casper™ and Duet are managed by an external testing company. There is a total fee of $52 associated with Casper™, which is not part of the TouroCOM application fee. It consists of a $40 testing fee and a $12 delivery fee, which is paid directly to the testing company upon registration.
Why Did The Aamc Come Up With The Preview?
The tricky part is that some situations have more than four possible responses or behaviors, which means that you can give multiple answers that lead to the same answer. In other words, for a given situation, you might decide that two of the responses presented are effective, two are ineffective, one is very effective, and three are very ineffective.
You get full credit when you match the best response and partial credit for the “almost” best response for each item. For example, if the correct answer is “effective,” you may receive partial credit for choosing “very effective.”
Each test consists of 30 conditions and 186 items. To be fair, the exact questions differ between test dates. Your total score is listed on a scale of 1-9. The Preview Exam is a 75-minute test (including 90 minutes of pre- and post-test processing) administered by a remote proctor.

Applicants must show their photo ID and have their identity verified by the invigilator before taking the exam. Each applicant is presented with a series of written scenarios and must determine the “effectiveness” of possible responses or behaviors.
Fall
You will need to submit a second application online with a $200 non-refundable secondary application fee. The fee will be paid at the end of the secondary application submission process. TouroCOM will waive the second application fee for those who qualify for the AACOMAS fee waiver program.
Monday, March 6th 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm Duet is a value alignment assessment that compares what you value in the program to what the program offers. Acumen developed this short assessment because every program is different and has something different to offer, whether it’s teaching style, research opportunities, and interactions with faculty.
With Duet, your personal preferences are compared to the program’s unique profile to help assess your joint alignment in a standardized way. Please note that any AP or IB scores used for prerequisites are subject to verification by a college board or international organization with a pdf copy of your AP scores (go to IBO.org and select school # 038943 – Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine).
Casper™ consists of a series of fictional everyday scenarios presented via video or text format. Each condition is associated with one or more individual characteristics. The examinees are asked to give brief written answers to the questions asked about each scenario.
How And When Are Preview Scores Released?
No study is required to take Casper™ but practice exams are highly recommended. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university or its equivalent if completed in a foreign country. Students who are working toward the completion of their master’s degree and have completed at least 75% of their undergraduate credits may be considered for admission.
TouroCOM places a high value on personal characteristics, which we believe are essential to being a competent and compassionate physician. Casper™ and Duet are considered objective tools for assessing an applicant’s personal attributes. We believe that using Casper™ and Duet makes the application review process fairer for applicants.
San Jacinto Residence Hall (SJH), Multipurpose Room 207C 309 21ST ST E, Austin, Texas 78712 TouroCOM takes a holistic approach to admissions. While academic achievement is important, we evaluate you based on your research, clinical, co-curricular and community service experiences, as well as your interest and commitment to the practice of osteopathic medicine.
