Ivy Tech’s nursing program has a selective admissions process. Nursing and Health Sciences limited enrollment programs have a separate application process and the program accepts only a limited number of students each year. After applying to Ivy Tech, you will be enrolled in the pre-nursing certification program while completing prerequisite course requirements.

PN graduates are qualified to provide primary care under the direction of registered nurses and physicians to patients in a variety of health care settings such as nursing homes, assisted care facilities, hospitals, clinics, home health services, and physician offices.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of licensed practical nurses is “projected to grow 16 percent from 2014 to 2024, far faster than the average for all occupations.” Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) graduates are eligible to register for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam.
Graduates who successfully pass the NCLEX-RN exam have the opportunity to obtain entry-level nursing positions in various health care fields or transfer to a four-year university, where they can earn an RN to BSN degree or an RN to MSN master’s degree.

The practical nursing program leads to a technical certificate that can be completed in one year.
