California may still combine in-person and virtual learning if the pandemic worsens, but Gov. Gavin Newsom recently confirmed his desire for students to return to classrooms and receive full social and emotional hours.

People involved in developing our 2020-21 curriculum. At the direction of our Board of Education, the Inauguration Task Force, led by Superintendent Mike Biondi, worked together over the summer to define the foundation for our work.
On the first day of school, all employees will spend a lot of time preparing for this first trimester. We are beginning the year with distance learning in accordance with state and county health department guidelines and look forward to welcoming students back to our campuses and classrooms.

The 2020-21 LVJUSD School Year Guide is available on our website and is attached to this email. This guide shares a detailed plan for implementing distance and blended learning. Newsom urged residents, including teachers, to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine if they haven’t already.
California’s decision to ban vaccinations could affect businesses and private schools, he said. This guide is district-wide and designed to answer many of the questions parents and guardians have. As with last year, these policies are subject to change at any time or to follow the guidelines of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The California Department of Public Health said this month it will conduct a regular evaluation of schools’ safety rules related to COVID-19 and determine whether face mask requirements and guidelines need to be updated by Nov. 1.
LVJUSD serves more than 13,300 students in grades TK-12 at nine elementary schools, two K-8 schools, three middle schools, one middle school, and two other schools. It offers international baccalaureate programs, dual immersion programs, and STEM pathways.

Parents of children entering transition kindergarten through the District’s 12th grade can begin registration by filling out an online enrollment form here. Registrants can access information about the registration process, special programs, and more in English and Spanish.
Parents can also learn about the Interdistrict Transfer Program for private school admissions. The first day of school for Livermore students is August 24th. The school district welcomes families who plan to return students to full-time special education but are not ready to return to special education.
