Tulsa Honor Academy Calendar – North Star Academy may be an ideal location for students who do not thrive in a traditional school environment. Also, students who want to accelerate credits or perhaps lack credits can find a home at North Star Academy.

North Star Academy students can earn up to 8 credits (sometimes more if motivated) in a regular academic year. Most traditional schools are limited to offering 6-7 credits per year. North Star Academy is proud to offer a different school experience.

We Are A Charter School With One Mission

We offer students the opportunity to accelerate graduation, recover credits, and/or enjoy a flexible school experience. We are committed to fostering relationships with students by focusing on academic success, career exploration, and celebration. The first day of classes will be Thursday, August 18 and the last day will be Thursday, May 25.

The calendar follows a traditional fall, winter, and spring vacation schedule; There will be no February vacation. Our 2022-2023 calendar, like those for each of the previous three years, is designed to exceed state requirements while supporting learning and minimizing student absences by avoiding as short weeks as possible.

Pending contract negotiations, the 2022-2023 calendar will include a student orientation day on Tuesday, August 16; This Orientation Day was added based on the positive feedback we received from families and team members about our 2021-2022 Orientation Days.

Welcome To North Star Academy

For each new academic year, all current and new North Star Academy students will go through an admissions process. Information gathered at intake will determine each student’s schedule. Physical presence on site each day may be more suitable for some students, while other students may work more independently.

North Star Academy sets each student’s schedule to personalize and support students and families. Equip all researchers with the academic skills, content knowledge, and ethical character necessary for college graduation and success in life. The Tulsa Honors Academy will prepare each student for the rigors of high school, college, and beyond.

We operate on the belief that all researchers, regardless of background or income, can achieve at a high level. Through strong academics and a focus on character, our students will achieve excellence. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring that 100% of our students attend and graduate from college.

Dixie Shaffer received a B.A. in English Education in 1996 and a Master’s in School Administration in 2006. She worked at Nathan Hale High School as an instructional facilitator for two years. In 2010 she became an assistant principal at Hale, where she worked for three years.

At North Star Academy we inspire and prepare each student to love learning, achieve ambitious goals, and make a positive contribution to the world.

We provide an alternative approach to learning through two different programs: online learning and project-based learning. During its meeting tonight, the Education Committee approved the proposed calendar for the 2022-2023 academic year. The calendar is currently pending contract negotiations with the Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and a copy can be found on our website at www.tulsaschools.org/calendar.

Our teachers are all highly experienced educators who are student advocates. They are flexible and open-minded, recognizing that every student can learn and every student deserves a quality education. The environment at North Star Academy is student centered and the friendly and productive atmosphere is based on mutual respect.

North Star Academy Students Will Be Bored Working Online All The Time

North Star Academy is working to offer more direct, face-to-face instruction to students. So far, the state of Oklahoma has approved us to teach yoga and rock and roll history using a different method of instruction than what is used online.

North Star Beyond is a project-based, personalized learning program. It has small classes, a relevant curriculum, and cooperative learning. We focus on developing students’ creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in the 21st century. Additionally, students will learn some important life skills such as nutrition, cooking, personal financial educatio
n, gardening, computers, and basic car maintenance.

Our teachers are passionate about fostering positive relationships with students and families and providing engaging, real-life lessons for students. Resourceful learners in a rapidly changing world: we have learned how to learn and use this ability to cope with school and life.

We know that lasting success comes from collaboration, so we work to understand ourselves and others. We strive for success, we learn from failure, and in all cases, we persevere. We thrive, even in uncertainty, because opportunity and challenge go hand in hand.

North Star Academy accepts applications during the school year for students in grades 6-12. We have helped thousands of high school students get on track and graduate. At North Star Academy Online, students take one class at a time for credit.

This allows students to focus on the laser and complete credits faster than in traditional school.
