Uc Davis Law Academic Calendar – Looking ahead to 2022, we’ve seen UC Davis rise to new heights with new records invested in research and philanthropy, ranking No. 2 among the nation’s public universities. This year also saw many highlights, such as Aggie’s entrance into the field.

To learn more about the growth and results that UC Davis achieved last year, please read the 2022 Annual Report. Here on campus, you can attend upcoming events, including “Black Hair: For Us, With Us,” a discussion on black and white hair care (Feb. 21);

the premiere of Judas and the Black Messiah, an action film about the Black Panther Party (February 22); and, a day later, a regular chat with former Black Panther Bobby Seale. See the Black Future Month calendar for more information.

Enduring Impact

As I said, we have a new approach to campus security, a model for the UC system and the country. You can hear more about this from Chief Constable Joe Farrow on the February 7 episode of Face to Face with Chancellor May.

I’ll be talking more about diversity with Renetta Garrison Tull, vice chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in the next episode of May’s Face to Face with the Chancellor (February 28). We will learn more about his history and his leadership to make UC Davis a model for promoting diversity throughout our community.

Apart from this disease, other problems today affect many people in our society. On February 1, we held a Campus-wide Moment of Reflection outside Memorial Union to mourn the victims of recent gun and police violence.

Unfortunately, there will be more. Transformative research is on the rise in all of our schools. This is especially true in studies of the safe use of psychedelics to treat mental disorders. Associate Professor David E. Olson and his team are investigating how psychoactive substances can lead to the development of drugs for depression, Parkinson’s disease, addiction and other disorders.

Showing Support

The results of these studies could be revolutionary in the world of neuroscience. 34 health workers will be on campus for training from this month. They will consult with the school through a community group and schedule all the work by this fall.

Hear more from Fire Chief Nate Trauernicht on the April 26, 2022, episode of Face to Face with Chancellor May on Health 34. Tuesday, November 12, will be considered Monday for class schedule purposes. Wednesday, November 27, will be considered a Friday for class schedule purposes.

I was also horrified, surprised, and disappointed by the shooting at Michigan State University, a prospect for all of us in colleges. I hope you had time to read my words about this sad event. Classes that meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays must schedule another class session before November 25th.

Please update your vaccination record in Health-e-Messaging in accordance with the requirements of the UC COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.

Chancellor’s Colloquium

This means that, by February 28, you must be aware of your stimulation shot, or you must submit a stimulation cancellation form. Additions are strongly encouraged, but the first entry remains important under UC principles. In the world of art, the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art remains an important reference and educational center in Northern California and beyond.

In fact, the Manetti Shrem Museum was recognized by ARTnews as one of the 25 best museums in the world in the last 100 years. This week, we recognized a key player in all of this: Maria Manetti Shrem, who was announced as the recipient of the 2023 UC Davis Medal for her vision and leadership in revitalizing the arts at UC Davis.

Classes that meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays must schedule another class session before November 25th. Timing may be at the discretion of the professor or in consultation with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

** Exams will be held on Saturday, December 5 and/or Saturday, December 12. Since Valentine’s Day was earlier this week, I encourage you to visit our “Aggies in Love” chart and help out. Created by our university development team with the Cal Aggie Alumni Association and the UC Davis Esri Support Team, the map shows where the love began for many Aggies on campus and around the community, along with stories and photos.

Diversity In All Its Forms

I invite all to attend the next Chancellor’s Conference – Wednesday, February 22, in person or via Zoom – with Sister Simone Campbell, a Law School graduate who has dedicated her life to justice issues. Last July, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation’s highest civilian honor, for his work in passing the Affordable Care Act in 2010.

We have it all here: RSVP link for the individual program. at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts (admission is free but you will need to RSVP for tickets) via a Zoom link. We have set aside the week of February 27 to celebrate Our Community Points, an annual event with this year’s theme “Unifying Our Community.”

Programs (many of which are accessible remotely) are hosted at our Davis and Sacramento campuses to promote understanding and build community. Next month we will have a Free Speech at the UC Davis Campus Town Hall at Public University, 3-4 p.m.

Tuesday, March 7, in the Student Community Center. College students have long been working on some of our nation’s most pressing issues. However, large and divisive debates about free speech and hate speech are occurring in schools across the country.

Grades And Love

This has led us to assemble a team that will include Ashutosh Bhagwat and Brian Soucek, professors of law; Gregory Downs, professor of history and chairman of the Senate Investigative Committee on Academic Freedom and Accountability;

and Michelle Deutchman, executive director of the UC National Center for Free Speech and Community Engagement. Also, my condolences to our UC Davis community, students, teachers and their families who were affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

I have shared words of support for the UC Davis community in this letter, and Global Affairs has compiled a list of resources to support students, faculty, staff and professionals. Although the disease still exists in our community, the impact on our lives is very different from when the epidemic began three years ago.

Disease prevention has changed over time from a public health concern to a personal responsibility. With vaccinations and better health care, people can manage their exposure to risk factors, just like we do with the flu and other respiratory illnesses.

Spaces To Help You Grow

February is Black History Month, a time to recognize the diversity of our community and celebrate the achievements of African Americans. I am honored to be on the advisory board of an organization called The HistoryMakers, which preserves the Black experience by creating an archive of first-person accounts, including my own (I was interviewed in 2012).

HistoryMakers will be the subject of a report on this Sunday’s edition of 60 Minutes. Yesterday I had the pleasure of appearing before the Academic Senate to deliver my annual State of the Campus address, which gave me the opportunity to thank our departments for what I called their persistence during the recent strike.

As of January 30, history teachers had completed 99.1% of their classes – that’s 132,235 classes. And that’s what I call on the up and up. Thanks again. We are constantly updating our school buildings so that students and teachers can find the best facilities and equipment available.

We have added this facility to our residential and public facilities. Wherever you are, there is someone to help you. The Admitted Students website is your go-to place for information and answers to many of your questions.

UC Davis continues to find ways to improve campus safety. That includes Health 34, where the campus fire department will send paramedics, EMTs, medical and nursing students from Sacramento schools, and other health professionals — to respond to other calls for help before they become emergencies.

Campus Safety

Our four academic colleges invest as much in educating the next generation as they do in leading-edge research. The Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Engineering work together to create real-world experiences that last a lifetime.

It is named after Station 34, the headquarters of our Fire Department, which runs the program in partnership with the school’s health care providers and aims to connect all Aggies, including students, staff and visitors. and basic needs, and reducing access barriers.

Our Global Learning Center supports more than 1,300 students with study abroad in more than 30 countries each year. They also help students gain international experience through internships, jobs, research and learning programs on campus, in the region, and on all seven continents.

Me and our longtime director, Karla Fung, who finds the map a “nice surprise” every year, as she put it in a front-page story for The Davis Enterprise. “We had a story when Gunrock showed up at a wedding.”
