For the first time, full-time freshmen in the fall of 2022, 87.1% returned for the spring semester. That’s an improvement from the 86.5% retention rate from fall to spring 2022, but still below the 91% standard in the years leading up to the pandemic.
“The university’s data shows a significant year-over-year increase in graduation rates,” said Tim Metz, assistant vice chancellor for planning and institutional effectiveness. “With more students graduating, there is an effect of fewer returning students the next semester.”

The university attributed the drop of 391 students to a higher-than-usual number of graduates in December and the continued impact of the pandemic on student and family finances.
