The awarding ceremony was held at the residence of the French ambassador in Malta by His Highness E.E. Ambassador Agnes Von der Meul, Ambassador of France in Malta. This prestigious honor is awarded by the French Ministry of Culture to distinguished individuals from around the world for their significant contribution to the arts.

For the past 25 years, Dr. Debono has been active with national heritage agencies. He contributed to and directed major international exhibitions in Malta, Brussels and Italy. He led the revision of the Malta National Museum of Public Art – MUŻA at the National Museum of Fine Arts, informed by his PhD at University College London.

He is a national representative of the European Academy of Museums and a founding member of We Are Museums Lab, an international platform for museum changers and innovators based in Paris. He also recently joined the International Advisory Board of the Anchorage Museum (Alaska, USA) and holds other advisory roles for companies and start-ups in the cultural heritage and museum sector, particularly in Italy.
