In connection with this, students work on a few public holidays on Monday. Students have 2 4-week periods on this grant – students have a wellness afternoon on the 4th Friday afternoon starting at noon (or after rounds).

Weekends and Shifts: Most sites have occasional weekend shifts. This includes scheduled weekends on the wards or weekend shifts in the emergency department. Students can exchange weekend ward shifts with other medical students on their team if necessary due to scheduling conflicts.
Medicine Clerkship
Similarly, students may switch ED shifts if their schedule allows them to do so without violating work time limits or breaks between shifts. Students may not change their assigned primary care clinic without permission. Students may change majors if there are no scheduling conflicts, but must notify the participants they are working with.

In general, students can expect to work an average of two weekend days per month, some of which are night shifts, seeing acute care surgical and trauma patients in the emergency department. As a rule, there is flexibility in the weekend schedule so that students can plan their journey to major events as needed.
The academic calendar is a schedule of all the events of the academic year, including the final exam period, holidays and the last day of the semester. You can see semester-specific university deadlines in Semester dates.
Surgery Clerkship
By organizing holidays and religious holidays, the university aims to provide plenty of opportunities for students who follow these traditions to work. Faculty members who wish to observe religious holidays will arrange for another faculty member to fill their class or reschedule canceled classes.
Students generally do not have weekend clinical assignments, but some workplaces provide occasional weekend or evening clinical sessions for students (a clinical session is approximately 3.5-4 hours of scheduled patient care) depending on how many hours the position is open for patient care (

which you can check on your site web page linked to FM official website). When clinical sessions are held in the evenings or on weekends, students are paid weekday compensation for an average of two clinical periods per weekday, not including teaching days or public holidays.
Most clinics run longer than the patient’s scheduled hours, so you should allow about an extra hour after the scheduled clinical session ends. Your clinical schedule will be given to you when you arrive at the clinical site.
Official Academic Calendars
Christmas Day is Monday, December 26, 2022. New Year’s Day is Monday, January 2, 2023. During holidays other than Thanksgiving, Intersession, and Spring Break, student schedules depend on location and location. Other days off (e.g. Monday holidays) and related weekends depend on the individual student’s schedule and rotation location, as some polyclinics may be closed, but ward services are active.
For the sake of fairness, we do our best to balance the schedules so that students’ schedules are roughly the same in terms of service times throughout the block. Ob/Gy rotation students rotate through gynecology, labor and delivery, and the outpatient clinic at all locations (BMC/Lahey students complete their gynecology residency only in Lahey).

These rotating treatment locations allow for some flexibility and schedule customization. The schedules of all workstations are flexible enough so that students can, upon request, take a certain weekend off and, if necessary, use one of (two) personal days until Friday or Monday.
Time off must be requested in accordance with BUSM’s free time and personal days policies. Off-campus students make their schedules when they arrive at the office.
