March 20, 7.47 inches of rain fell in Houston back in 1972. The rain fell in a three-hour period in parts of Buffalo and Halls bayou from banks. More than 1,500 houses were damaged by the storm.

A Bow Echo moved over the southern half of Southeast Texas on this date in 2015. Wind damage was reported by Edna in Angleton. The strong winds collapsed a circus tent near Angleton and gusts were estimated between 60 and 80 mph across much of Brazoria County.
June 11 A squall line crossed southeast Texas on the morning of the 11th in 1995. Damaging winds tore off the roof of the Houston Community College and produced significant damage in Stafford. Many trees and power lines were downed in Manvel and Alvin with a total storm damage of $2 million dollars.
November 21 On this date in 1992, more than 12 tornadoes destroyed parts of Southeast Texas. More than 2,800 buildings were damaged by the storm and property damage was estimated at close to $100 million dollars.
An EF-4 tornado produced significant damage in Channelview and this EF-4 tornado was the last EF-4 to affect Southeast Texas. The temperature hit 100 degrees in Houston on this date in 2011. This was the first day of 21 consecutive days with temperatures at or above 100 degrees.
All told, the 100-degree threshold was reached on 32 of the next 33 days. Houston reached or exceeded 100 degrees 46 times in the summer and early fall of 2011. The damage from these storms reached $70,000 dollars. A flurry of precipitation moved across Southeast Texas on this date back in 2014 with most of the region seeing light rain. In Houston County temperatures fell below 32 degrees on the night of the 11th in the 12th, causing ice to form.
On November 7, 1996, a band of thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas and produced widespread wind damage generally along and north of I-10. Trees and power lines were downed from College Station to Conroe to Coldspring.
Homes were damaged in parts of Trinity and Polk counties. In 1979, Conroe received 15.61 inches of rain in 24 hours and 19.30 inches of rain for the month. Parts of Harris County received between 10 and 16 inches of rain and most of the bay came from banks.
The flood caused three deaths. On February 5, 1986, four tornadoes tore through parts of Waller and Harris counties. An EF 3 tornado produced significant damage at DW Hooks Airport. The tornado damaged more than 300 airplanes and also destroyed 37 of 40 mobile homes in a nearby mobile home park.
Two people were killed and another 49 people were injured. The damage was estimated at 80 million dollars. An arctic cold front moved through southeast Texas on this date in 1924. Temperatures dropped from a high of 80 on the 18th to a low of 23 degrees on the 19th in Brenham Texas.
A band of light rain and snow showers accompanies the front. October 13 Strong thunderstorms rolled over Southeast Texas on this date in 2001. This storm knocked down power lines and power poles, uprooting trees especially north of a College Station in Liberty line.
An EF-1 tornado touched down near Bryan and damaged several businesses. On this date in 1973, a band of light to moderate snow moved across Southeast Texas. 2.5 inches of snow fell in Brenham, 2.0 inches of snow fell in College Station and 1.4 inches of snow fell in Houston (8/9).
On May 15, 1997, a cluster of slow-moving thunderstorms produced large hail in Pierce, Oakhurst, and Crockett. An EF-0 tornado touched down just east of Groveton. The storm produced very heavy rain and flooding was reported in Crockett, Apple Springs, Grapeland and Corrigan.
Parts of Trinity and Polk counties received 7 inches of rain in two hours. March 22 The last snowfall ever documented for the Houston area occurred on this date in 1968. One inch of snow was reported at Hobby Airport.

The official observatory in downtown Houston reported no snow. Madisonville, Huntsville and Conroe all reported traces of snow. June 16 An early morning thunderstorm complex swept across Southeast Texas on this date in 2002. Winds downed trees and downed power lines from Caldwell to Houston and then down the coast.
Significant damage was reported in El Campo as large trees fell on houses and cars. A gust of 55 knots was measured at Morgan’s Point. The summer of 2010 was hot, but especially at night. Overnight lows will not fall below 80 degrees on several occasions.

June 25 The first half of 1996 was extremely dry across all of Southeast Texas, but heavy rain returned in the last week of June. On June 25, 1996, a snowfall of 2 to 4 inches of rain fell over the southern half of the region, with Danevang recording 6.07 inches of rain and Houston Hobby Airport 3.30 inches of rain.
October 19. On this date in 2002, a supercell moved along I-10 from Eagle Lake to the Sealy Dumping District in golf ball size hail. Strong winds also damaged several businesses in Eagle Lake and uprooted trees and knocked down utility poles and power lines.
May 1 A squall line moved over Burleson and Brazos County in the late evening on this date in 2000. The storm produced strong damaging winds that fell trees and power lines in Caldwell. Large hail and strong winds also destroyed 12,000 hectares of crops.
May 17 On this date in 1989, a significant event of heavy rain began over parts of Harris and Montgomery counties. The city of Houston set its 24-hour rainfall record with 10.89 inches of rain in 24 hours between May 17th and May 18th.
15 inches of rain fell in spring Texas and 14 inches of rain fell over Liberty and Cleveland. Flooding was widespread and more than 1,200 homes sustained flood damage. A three-day severe weather event occurred on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of 2004. Flooding was reported in Wharton, Jackson, Colorado and Austin counties.
10.33 inches of rain fell in Wharton and 6.45 inches of rain was reported in Bellville over the three-day period. April 21 A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2006. Strong winds destroyed a barn in Kurten and uprooted trees and downed power lines from Columbus Spring to Dickinson.

An EF-1 tornado damaged an elementary school near Pleak. Heavy storms moved over Harris County on this day in 1926. The damaging winds associated with these storms destroyed more than 1,000 oil derricks in Harris County and produced over $2 million dollars in damage (1926 dollars).
On September 23, 1941, a hurricane struck between Freeport and Matagorda Land. The Category 1 storm produced wind gusts of 80 mph. Four deaths were attributed to the storm. The hurricane produced 11 feet of storm surge and estimates were close to $6.5 million dollars.
A cluster of strong storms moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2000. A downburst near Hockley destroyed two houses and damaged 20 other houses. Two-inch diameter hail shattered windows and damaged cars near Hockley and golf ball-sized hail lashed Edna and Wallisville.
A slow moving warm front triggered a band of heavy rain over parts of Austin, Waller, Colorado and Washington counties on this date in 1981. This area received between five and ten inches of rain with 7.20 inches in Columbus and 6.79 inches in
Brenham. A heavy rain event unfolded over the northern half of Southeast Texas on this date in 1929. The city of Houston reported 6.43 inches of rain, Brenham reported 5.50 inches of rain and Conroe reported 4.65 inches of rain.
Periods of rain continued intermittently for about 10 hours and most of the Harris County bayous were out of banks. January 1 Happy New Year! Unfortunately, the weather never takes a vacation and tornadoes can occur at any time of the year.
On January 1, 1999, an EF-2 tornado produced damage in Trinity County and another EF-2 tornado produced damage in Liberty County. Heavy rain on this date in 1997 produced significant flooding across parts of Harris County.
50 to 75 houses flooded and many bayous were out of the banks. A water rescue was needed to save the lives of two people who were swept away in floodwaters near White Oak Bayou. Houston Heights measured 5.07 inches of rain and Barker Reservoir reported 4.28 inches of rain during this weather event.
Tropical Storm Erin made landfall near Port Aransas in 2007. Although the storm was well south of the area, a band of very heavy rain moved over Harris County. Precipitation rates were four inches per hour and produced flooding on area bayous.
There were three deaths due to the heavy rain and associated flooding.
