Welcome To The Cleveland State University Department Of Physical Therapy

Founded in 1974, Cleveland State University (CSU) is one of the premier physical therapy (PT) programs in Northeast Ohio. The department graduated its first class of Bachelor of Physical Therapy (BSPT) in 1976, progressed to Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) in 2002 and progressed to Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2008. The department is fully accredited

by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) since its inception. The CSU DPT prepares graduates to sit for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy national examination in physical therapy in all states.

Many of our partner healthcare facilities require students and faculty to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in order to have a clinical experience at their facility. In some programs, it may be difficult to complete the internships required for your program of study if you do not receive the vaccine.

The College of Health encompasses the following academic units that were previously part of other university colleges or separate departments: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Exercise Science/Community Health, Health Sciences/Public Health, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, School of Medicine

Located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, our department offers rigorous physical therapy training with dedicated and experienced faculty, newly renovated laboratories and classrooms, as well as research and clinical opportunities, training within the university as well as in the Cleveland area.

The clinical education component of the program has more than 140 affiliated clinical sites, including Cleveland Clinic Foundation, University Hospitals, Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center and Louis B. Stokes Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center, as well as many other facilities in Ohio and throughout the region.

United State. Outside of the classroom, students can participate in more than 150 clubs on campus, about a dozen fraternities and sororities, and three different student newspapers. The university also offers several varsity sports teams, the Cleveland State Vikings, who compete in the NCAA Division I Horizon League.

Off campus, CSU students can explore the city’s museums, restaurants, professional sports teams and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This includes 34 weeks in 4 full-time clinical training courses leading to initial practical competence, followed by a 7-week final practicum of choice in a non-traditional area of ​​PT practice. 0% of CSU DPT students are members of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Ohio Physical Therapy Association (APTA/OPTA). Students benefit from PT educational sessions, professional networking, and service opportunities by attending professional conferences, business meetings, serving on committees, among other activities.

Students are also active in supporting community organizations, serving as volunteers with groups such as Dance Unlimited in Akron, Ohio; providing food for families living at Hope Lodge; supporting health care groups by taking part in competitions, e.g.

Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure; among many others. Finally, students stay healthy by forming intramural teams and/or by taking advantage of outstanding activities at the CSU Recreation Center.
