In the late 1950s, Northwestern also offered registered nurses the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree through a specialized (RN to BSN) program. The School of Allied Health (SAH) also has a Master of Science in Radiological Sciences (MSRS) program launched in 2009. It is the only MSRS program in Louisiana and one of only a handful in the nation.

In addition, SAH has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Allied Health (BASAH) program that began in 2012. The BASAH program was the first applied science degree in Louisiana. In 1968, the Bachelor of Science in Radiological Technology (BSRT) program was implemented in the Department of Life Sciences.
The program was established in 1994 in the College of Nursing. The Radiologic Sciences program is offered at both the Shreveport and Alexandria Rapids Hospital campuses. Radiologic Technology was changed to the Radiologic Science Program degree program in 2008. The Radiologic Science program is now under the New College of Nursing and School of Allied Health.

In their first year at the NSU College of Nursing, students were given two options. They can exit the program at the end of three years of study with a diploma, or complete a fourth year and earn a bachelor’s degree.
