D97 Calendar – They shared with families that fewer and fewer students need distance learning. They said the numbers were “significantly down” since January, when cases reached triple digits due to the Omicron strain. According to school information, the district has reported 21 new cases of COVID among staff and students, approximately 26 of whom have been quarantined.
In recent weeks, the district has been working to improve some of its plans to mitigate the effects of Covid and met with the teachers’ union, the Oak Park Teachers Association (OPTA), to discuss several issues, including current distance learning options, Siegfried told the Journal Wednesday.

From there, district officials and OPTA members agreed to end the classroom window model, according to a district email sent to families on March 15. Oak Park School District 97 teachers are no longer required to offer a special distance learning option that allows quarantined students to watch or listen to their classes on Zoom.
Known as a “window into the classroom,” the option gave students at home a somewhat limited experience, as they couldn’t use the chat feature or participate in discussions. That means, she explained, teachers can decide how they approach distance learning for students in quarantine while still meeting state requirements.
