He knew UO would help him become an artist and dancer. “We see dance here as a form of research – we learn an art form. We learn how to apply ourselves as human beings and we develop a sense of artistry. In each of our technique classes, we learn to move, but we also learn to perform, create, and learn what works

SOMD has a state-of-the-art recording studio, as well as numerous private practice rooms, while our performance space is unmatched for acoustics and comfort and safety. From the world-renowned sound balance of Beal Hall to the state-of-the-art sprung floors in all of our dance studios, SOMD provides students with unparalleled support for their artistic endeavors.

A degree from the School of Music and Dance is the foundation for many professional endeavors in the performing arts and beyond. The artist development process teaches leadership, teamwork, planning and project management, verbal and non-verbal communication as well as creative and critical thinking.
