With these goals in mind, Professor Sugin led the creation of Fordham’s Office of Academic Affairs in 2017, shortly after becoming vice chancellor, placing the law school at the forefront of the movement to expand professional education.
Its purpose is to fill gaps in traditional legal education and to educate students about historically neglected but important opportunities. The Professional Office’s flagship programs focus on peer skills, student leadership and community building. Two key initiatives, the REAL Scholar Program and IDEAL, are designed to attract students who are not in law school and into the legal profession.

“The definition allows us to look at mandatory law school skills and make connections where they might not be visible,” says Strauss. These discussions are important because law and the study of law have an important role to play in helping us all to understand and solve social problems, and to identify promising ways forward.
