Each woman had to buy 50 to 75 Buffalo Jills shower calendars for $10 each and sell them. If they did not sell, they were left and “should receive other punishments according to the opinion of the accused”.
The same went for the Jills’ golf game tickets and gift baskets, which would cost each woman $590. Other out-of-pocket expenses included travel and hotel accommodations for events he was scheduled to attend and $650 for uniforms, the lawsuit said.

Christina spends her working days as an HR analyst, and admits that dirty martinis, laundry and shoe shopping are her hobbies. During her eight years as an NFL cheerleader, her fondest memories were being selected to represent the Jills in the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl.
“It doesn’t mean anything except to have friends who give you that honor. I’m really happy that they chose me. A lot of cheerleaders want to go to the NFL Pro Bowl like the Super Bowl for cheerleaders that only one girl leaves every NFL team that has cheerleaders,”
he says. There are, as we all know, crazy lawsuits when it comes to independent contractors. These arguments can come from any company and no company is immune to these claims. Case in point. A New York state judge just granted class-action relief to a group of NFL Buffalo Bills cheerleaders who say the lawsuit denied them overtime pay.
While they may have been eliminated from the playoffs, this team may be in the spotlight, but for the wrong reasons. The case is titled Caitlin Ferrari, et al and Stephanie Mateczun, et al, and was filed in the New York Supreme Court in Erie County.
Team officials often don’t talk about this question, because it’s a standard question. But the group’s statement following the court’s decision two years ago provides some insight. Among other things, it says: “As we have said since this lawsuit was filed, the Bills should not be a defendant
in this lawsuit because the Bills contracted with other people to hire, train, supervise and pay the cheerleaders.”
The film examines the league’s treatment of cheerleaders through the lens of the Jills and the Oakland Raiderettes, two teams whose members sued each other for better pay. The results are very different: the Raiderettes end up beating the Raiders in less than a year.
The Jills’ lawsuit, which began in 2014, is ongoing. O’Shea: Yes. Litigation issues are why Jill closed. The first cases were filed in 2014, and although Jill had already chosen her team for the season, she decided to withdraw.
The judge ruled that the plaintiffs, known as the Buffalo Jills, were entitled to the team’s licenses because (under New York law) the statute of limitations is six years, so the team in question can repay for six seasons.
There were about forty (40) leaders who were happy at the time, so the judge concluded that it was impossible to try their cases separately. The court also found sufficient similarity in the claims to support class certification.
Important note: Even though the team posted their game, Mateczun didn’t pay to lead the Jills. When Citadel (now Cumulus) Broadcasting’s 97 Rock sponsored a cheerleading squad, the station paid them to drive the Jills and raise money for the support.
The money was not paid to Mateczun, nor did he pay the cheerleaders, apart from other company expenses. It was up to Mateczun and the radio to make money.
