Research shows that participation in extracurricular activities is associated with academic success. Many faculty and staff recommend clubs and activities that are a great way for students and staff to get to know each other. Your school can share more information about all the activities available to students.

DCPS student-athletes in grades 4 through 12 play in the District of Columbia Athletic Association (DCIAA) region. DCIAA sanctioned sports offered at the schools are cross country, archery, baseball, basketball, bowls, cheerleading, cross country, flag football, soccer, golf, indoor and outdoor track and field, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis

Student Attendance

Daily school attendance has a significant impact on student success from kindergarten through high school. As children grow and become more independent, families play an important role every day in ensuring that students get to school safely and understand the importance of success in school and life.

The first day of school for the 2022-2023 school year at DCPS is August 29. Holidays throughout the year include Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break. Early release dates are also planned for the beginning of the year.
